Bums,
I thought it would be fun to shout out about the cool new gadget we just bought to enhance our cigar smoking experience.
Mine isn't super-recent, but it's still my latest and certainly one of my favorites EVER. It's my IM Corona Classic lighter in brown calf skin. Most of you will see it and think "Old Boy" which it basically is. The difference is that rather than a horizontal flame trajectory, it employs a traditional vertical flame. It lights first time, every time and holds a lot more fuel than it's small-ish size would suggest. I can get roughly 8-10 "normal" ring cigars lit per fill. The action is buttery smooth and the build quality and weighty feel is standard IM Corona fare. It's just outstanding in every way.

Looks very nice and of Substantial size, would expect it to have a large fuel tank.
As to leaving it on a screened porch. Doubt temp swings etc would be a big problem.
The big Ronson table lighters of yore that lived in doors in many cases stayed as bright & shiny as new for years.
But other than an owner wanted to make sure others would not fail to note that lighter, most smokers would use matches
to light pipes, cigars, cigarettes while those Ronsons sat gleaming on the tabletop.
Someone here on Cigarbum will surely have a more detailed as well as more useful answer to your query.
Sure does look nice...and you sure did well at the price.
Congrats,
Enjoy.

Nice Pen, never saw one of those on CigarBid before. j/k :)
I would caution against leaving it on a screened-in porch. The temp and humidity swings over time might harm internal components. Just my take on that.

The DC smokes everything out there. Simply the best lighter made, regardless of price.
I like the Classic, but it's just a basic, single soft flame lighter. Like all IMC products, the construction is top notch and feels very solid in the hand. It's deceptively small, but seems to have a lot of lights in it. I can handle 4-5 cigars on a fill. It's not nearly as versatile as the DC and is harder to toast with in comparison.

I replaced a Xikar Trezo with a Xikar Axia and am quite pleased. The triple flame Trezo was so erratic, lighting sometimes, uneven flame, horribly deteriorating finish...none of which exist with the slightly lower in price Axia.

Thank you, I don't know about sweeping the floor mats but it definitely eliminates the "did that ash go out the window or did it fly right back in" question. Also, no more cell phone clip to hold the cigar while I pump gas. Not sure what took me so long to get off the $15 it set me back. Now to procrastinate for months about buying an ashtray for the deck...

I don't really worry about it as I'm usually the only one in my car. I crack the window 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, turn the blower up to about 3/4 to create some positive pressure and smoke away. There doesn't seem to be much residual smell. Of course this doesn't hurt either:

From what little I could find it was made by H.T Cushman Manufacturing Company in Bennington Vermont sometime prior to 1940 or so. They apparently had an entire line of smoking stands and tables. Some with accessory drawers, some with copper lined humidors built in. The ashtray and paint are original. The base is a little loose and it is missing two smaller ashtray stands that went with it.

Bought a couple of Modus cigar tools. These were designed and are made by a BOTL on another forum and I've wanted something a little nicer than the crude tools I've been using.
The craftsmanship on these is top notch and they are more heavy duty than I thought, looking at the pictures.

Yes, I should have turned it in the pic so it showed better - it looks like 2 dark spots in the pic I posted. There are 2 slits on each side to help remove some bits of loose tobacco to open it up. They start at about 3/4" and go to about 2", alternating sides.

Indeed, these have GOT to have barbs cut into them! The more the merrier. If you can't excavate tobacco from a plugged stick, once the baccy heats up, you're worse off than when you started.
Back in the day, I consulted with one of the original makers of such tools; "Boom". He was making great looking tools at the time, but they lacked the barbs.
It's nice to know one has, in some way, influenced posterity. ;)

Yes - price is the same either way and free shipping on Amazon. There is a Maduro that is darker and a Rosado (one I got) that is lighter and I know he mentioned having a few Claro (those aren't listed on Amazon) - I'll have to see if I can get a pic of those. No, they aren't green lol
Here it is. He says he only has a few so you need to order direct.

Wife bought me a Newair for Xmas that will be known as #3 so I needed a little wood for the build and shelf dividers and such. I also ordered some to convert a few of the shelves (drawers and shelves ordered from Forrest) into trays that I like in the top 2 slots.
Also had to get some to pimp out wino #2 which is all boxes. Leftovers for the cooler and such.
I've ordered several times from him and at this point he counts about as good as you do so there were some extras.....

Have any of you had dealings with Forrest at Wineadors.com before? I placed an order back in May for two shelves, but haven't heard from him since October. Sent a few emails since then, but no replies. I know it usually takes a while, but 8-9 months for shelves seems a bit much.

Send him another e-mail. I have ordered drawers from him before and just placed another order. He's not great about checking and responding to e-mails but he eventually does. 8-9 months sounds like an order was lost - shelves are pretty standard and shouldn't take that long.
Let me know if you don't hear from him and this doesn't get cleared up Farrell and I'll get to him.

Hi Ciro! I am the owner of Modus Design. You can reach me at
[email protected] or by PM here.
I registered for CB a while back, but have not posted before. I'm pretty active on a couple of other forums, but since starting Modus I didn't want anyone thinking I was just kicking the door in to promote Modus (though, of course, I do want to spread the word).
I can post more info on Modus if you Bums (j/k) want me too. The "forums only" sale includes the original Modus WNYTONY talked about, but we also have some blems and seconds even more deeply discounted and are starting to take pre-orders on a new version coming out in the next couple of months.

One could always claim "Dis ain't no Ice Pick, I just carry it to use on my cigars."
Taking it from Joisey to Philly, might be an excellent idea, could need it at the Orgy,
not always easy to watch your drink, light someone else's cigar when asked to do so, and watch your back.
Bit of a "show and tell" demonstration of how it could be used to *Nub might be in order early on.

Funny how even a fairly aware guy can fail to see he's starting down another slippery slope.
First it just a couple of Drac stabs.
Followed by wondering how the blood on the nubber might taste.
Then why not just one, maybe two bites...
Soon a quart of nice warm blood every night.

The V cutter has seen duty for some where around 300 Cigars. The Guillotine has sliced more than 1100 Cigars.

If I may butt in, what the Emperor's referring to is using the tobacco cutter to slice off pieces of rope tobacco (leaves compressed by twisting into a rope) for pipe smoking. The slices are called "coins" - they are about the size/shape of a nickel.

It probably depends more on the size and shape of the humidor. Wineadors usually have some empty space on the bottom that tucking beads into would take less space than bovedas scattered throughout.
That being said I do both. Seems to work fairly well so far.

It seems like the beads take up less space, maybe because they are in the little baggies that I bought along with the beads so they are kept in a more compact space. Each bag is probably about the size of two robustos roughly, so I lose the space of 4 sticks. Each boveda is as wide as about 4 robustos roughly and I had 6 or 8 of them in the wineador. Because of their shape etc., they seem to block more space for cigars. The total volume of the beads compared to the bovedas might be very similar, but the wasted space for the bovedas seems to be more than for the beads.

I also wanted enough to toss some in a 48qt cooler for when I start buying boxes again. So my wife ordered them, and this.

Apparently she wanted me to have something a bit nicer than tupperware to keep my cigars in. I think it is safe to say she supports this hobby.
Now to season it and empty my tupperdores.
Very nice! Do you have a spot for it already?

A really nice humidor, the exact size I was looking to purchase in the next couple months. I have been using a tupperdor for my cigars so far with great results, but they are not pretty to look at. So now I have this nice piece to hold the sticks I am currently smoking and can put it on the end table in the living room.
Thank you again so much David!

Speaking of which I need to get a new cutter, the plastic guillotine one I have is already dull. I made a bullet punch out of an old Winchester 270 casing which works great with most cigars, it is not suited for smaller gauge sticks though. Now to decide on a better quality guillotine, or maybe a v-cutter, or both...:stogie:

So I know these aren't fancy and probably of low quality; but I found these torch lighters in the clearance rack at the grocery store for less than $3 each. Five are triple flame and one is a single. Lighters for the cars, the golf bag, the garage, give them away to my friends, or when they borrow I don't have to worry about getting them back. You can never have too many lighters! If they stop working? Oh well, at this price they are disposable.

I had originally bought a cheap plastic Vertigo as I didn't know if I'd like the V-cut. Found myself cutting it twice to form a +
This one is deep enough for a single cut so the Vertigo will go to the golf bag.

Got this beauty this past Friday, sorry it took so long to post.
Also have to give Kayla cheaphumidors a huge thank you for her honest help and input while choosing which one to get.
I was really hopeful the pics would come out better, but I always forget the light over the dinner table screws with my camera's white balance. So needless to say these pics do not do it justice, I would take some more in better lighting, but it is seasoning now. I guess bad pics are better then none though.

I decided to season with the Boveda seasoning packs since I have had great success using them (for humidity control) in my tupperdors.
Kayla also hit me with a surprise 5ver, all of which I have been wanting to try.

The finish is really nice and it passed the paper test with flying colors. I can't wait to start using it, only 13 days to go.

Well, not a purchase but a gift from a thoughtful and thrifty friend, I received this nifty cigar registry, which she purchased at a used book shop for $2.50.
As I plan to affix a label and enter notes only for each first try, and it has enough space for about 800 entries, I think I'll be set for a long while, if not most likely forever. lol.
Speaking of which, I thought I already had a good system in place with the even hundred reviews I entered over at that "other" cigar site, combined with a label kept for each in the jar I show below.
That held true until a few years back when the whole site went completely under for about a week before changing hands.. and servers!... whereupon all my (and everyone else's) entries went Poof! Drat. And a first-hand lesson why even in this digital age, good ol' pen and paper may still have a valuable place. Or, "just use the "cloud", you might be saying. But that is a subject for another day. lol.
Sadly, as I understand it, the reason behind all that interruption was the site founder had died and about whom I can only have nice things to say for even endeavoring to give us all a place to chat and commiserate about, of all things, cigars! Thank you, sir, and hopefully you are now happily puffing away up there.
And of course, thank you, too, to our fine leadership here, for so boldly and selflessly carrying on the torch in a similar fashion.

If I ever get all these labels into that book...with notes!..it'll be quite some doing. 😁

That is so cool! I dont know if I'd have the discipline to keep up with it, but what a great project. I mean just the bands will make it a work of art in the end, let alone all your notes as a great keepsake.

Lol. Exactly. I've never been the methodical type but I think, all the back-tracking aside, once in the daily habit (and I don't fall behind!) it will become more pleasure than chore. And in the end I'll have all my notes in one accessible place. Aaaahhh.

Thanks, Chris. For anyone interested, I do see these books are still available online. I can't imagine the "used" ones are written in but I would check with the seller to be sure. Anyway, the book is Cigar Dossier, the author is Shawn M. Preston, and the publisher, MAKO Publishing, Inc. Good luck.

By the way, where it asks for a rating of each cigar, I have been kind of struggling with what to go with as far as a rating scale goes. 1-4, 1-5, or 1-10 don't quite grab or satisfy me but I think what I like is: N, R, C, S. Which stands for: Negligible, Respectable, Commendable and Superb. Yeah, I think that's gonna be it. :cowstogie:
Ideally, I guess, the results should fall in a bit of a bell curve but we shall see. I have a feeling there are a lot more N's than S's but that "skew" can be attributed to an overabundance of early and dubious noob picks. lol. :nono:

SoCal. Exactly! The part of the scale ever actually used is maybe 80-100, so only 20 pts. really, or not much more. Would be interesting to hear what other Bums here use, but also, I think my own system may work out for me. Thanks!

IMO, it's to not step on any toes. Their funding relies on cigar advertisements. Even if a cigar is bad, 88 sounds a lot better than 2 out 20 or whatever. Smart, but deceptive.

Supposedly, every review begins at 100 and they mark it down for everything they find wrong with it. In theory it sounds like a good system but you're right, it ends up being a bit lame. In all reality it truly is about a 12 point scale. It's also lame because (and I'd suspect most would agree) I don't care about cosmetic flaws or imperfect burn lines much at all - if a cigar doesn't TASTE good it's a dog rocket. But then again, as far as the scale spread goes, maybe it only goes down to 88 in practice because cigar snobs aren't reviewing Ron Mexicos

I can finally post this!
First I want to thank Kayla cheaphumidors for taking extremely good care of me during this purchase. I got my first 100 count humi from her when I got started smoking cigars. Still have it, and it still works great.
As we all know, there comes a time when you run out of room. That time had come for me, so I decided to expand my storage capacity.
Kayla suggested both of these pieces.
The Havana Foot Locker Cigar Humidor, which when the trays are removed are perfect for boxes and the Geneve Standing Cigar Humidor, both with a 500ct capacity :
https://i.imgur.com/FQp2Bfk.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/rxQvZsB.jpg
Had an issue with a crack in the drawer of the Geneve, so she had her supplier send me a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement drawer was too big and simply could not fit in the slot. I have to give Kayla big props for this, she had them send me a completely new piece. The new one I am happy to say was perfect, and is now in the beginning phase of the seasoning process. The footlocker is now in the stabilization phase and should be ready for some boxes very soon.
I have zero affiliation with CheapHumidors, but I trust her judgement and can't speak highly enough of how she treats her customers and fellow BUMs. For that I thank you once again Kayla!

A small item.
My leatherette pouch for my Xikar fell apart long ago, as you can see by the wear. The other side is more worn.
I had problems with it occasionally opening while in my pocket.
Reaching into one’s pocket fishing for car keys, lighter, etc. is not a good match with an open, sharp cigar cutter.
Got a new Buffalo leather pouch.

Got some acrylic trays for my large tupperdore. They fit perfectly, but YMMV, depending upon the storage container or cooler used.
I liked them so much, I got a few more for my winedor.
I forewent the traditional Spanish cedar trays. These were about half the price and available the same day from the local general merchandise discount retail store [emoji457] Sometimes I lack patience.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220510/373b11e0543e06eec00404aeda4c046e.jpg
I like that they stack together, so no crushing of cigars. At 8” wide, they fit nearly all cigars for length. At 2” high, it is perfect for 2 layers.
You can get smaller ones that also nest. I got a 4x12, hoping it would contain my short and small cigars, but it is about a half inch too narrow.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220510/e878c2f5d198916cbe1c9fafc5358c42.jpg
They also have an 8x8, that could combine with a 4x8 and stack exactly on the 12x8 for ultimate flexibility if you wanted to sort your cigars that far.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220510/32c5386ce31994b23f19ea2baac6bfae.jpg
The size that I didn’t see is a 6x8; two would fit perfect nested on a 12x8.

Next up; sort and reorganize!

I wonder about airflow in the acrylics?
That is a thought, but wouldn’t be worse than smaller tuppers with lids. Where they are stacked with the cedar trays, there is plenty of airflow. I shuffle through my cigars in the various trays often enough they get plenty of air change.
Cello’d sticks don’t get airflow, and they seem to be fine. Yes, I know cellophane breaths, but it is very limited and slow.
Lack of openness could be an advantage if there ever was an issue (mold, beetles) because they would be isolated.
I don’t think they are air tight. If they were, they would be difficult to lift off of one another. They aren’t. Less so probably than a winedor; just a smaller version.
I suppose one could drill some holes in the bottom or sides for airflow. I considered doing that in the bottom of one with media in a tray below it.
Now you’ve got me thinking.
[emoji848]
media in the bottom 4x8, with two 4x4 above with holes drilled in the bottoms, one of them containing a circulating fan, like a repurposed computer cooling fan. This would draw air over the media and up through the fan. Maybe just two stacked 4x4s.?

Not sure I have been considering a fan in my humidor but have not yet. I like the trays but I was using wire trays for my stacking and sorting for airflow purposes. I do not know which is better or not.

If you use a fan, it needs to cycle. Continuous actually creates problems, at least for me. I just use one of those ultra-cheap outlet timers with a dial, set for 30 minutes on twice a day.
WNYTONY has a good circulating fan set up.
That is a good question topic; how much air flow, or lack of it, effects cigars. A lot of hyperbole and probably emotion, but little in the way of scientific evidence with controls.
Aww, what am I talking about? Cigars are for enjoyment; not fussing over. If they are smoking fine, why change what you (we) do?

I remember some topic on the old site someone was wanting to age cigars wrapped in plastic vs not to see which was better.

Agreed!
It's like having a brick in your pocket compared to other cutters.
But the cut is so worth it.

I too just picked up a new cutter (cant have too many). Combination of a couple of my Xikars getting sticky and watched a 2guys podcast where Dave said he's used the same cutter on the show for 12 yrs (thats a min of 1248 cuts) and its still like new. Sure, he's a salesman but I needed a filler to get free shipping too, so I gave this serated cutter a shot.
Edit to add this thing is solid and weighs more than my xikars - nice clean cut on my cigar - heres hoping its a good one!

This cigar accessory, or something similar, frequently accompanies my after dark cigars.
Purchases made;
PEX brass coupler
Tiki wick
O-rings
lamp fuel (already had)
bottle of whiskey.
Had to be emptied first, of course. I recall this was a Brothers in Bond.
Yeah, I know. I could have bought a kit for this, but not as enjoyable.
I will light it up after I get a longer wick.

Impulse buy I have no real need or use for it.
Wanted one price was good. The humidity puck looks rough so because of that I may treat for mold. Since this is not I need to use it immediately purchase this will get a deep clean.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220528/32d240e169947577838fe08c70ce6629.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220528/a41cdc61618dc5a26db75116e2c0ccc3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220528/b448473ebd66133a45dd13c047903710.jpg

So after I noticed the humidity puck was a bit fuzzy I knew I needed a deep clean. Filled a spray bottle full of isopropyl alcohol and gave it all a good soaking.. I figure will let it sry and soak it again with whatever is left in spray bottle and should be good after that?
Any thoughts?

Nice case!
How many sticks is it supposed to hold?
I would chuck the puck and throw a couple of Boveda paks in there whenever you needed to use it.

Its a 40 CT. My guess is some may have tried this for long term storage. I may toss the puck but when I get around to using this it will be boveda packs for humidity. Like I said this was not a practical but I just wanted it. Now I have a 5ct 10 ct 15 ct and 40 ct.

I'd toss the puck - the gel is contaminated most likely.
I have a Xikar version that was my first humi. Took the sleeves out and it fit probably 80 - definitely more than 40. Used it on a flight with the sleeves, and was able to double up some rows that had small sticks.

I pulled the between the layers foam to fit in more sticks and added a cross piece to section off for longer and shorter smokes. I also cut a 2 piece Boveda holder and mounted them on the sides to hold 2 Bovedas. I replaced my foam with beads and cut in a spot for a hygro. Works pretty well to hold sticks I'm planning on in the next month or so.

That’s awesome, Tony! Somehow I envisioned your on-deck humidor as a regular desktop, wooden humidor.
josh lucky 13, Are you planning any trips where you would want to take that many sticks? Like a CigarBum Orgy perhaps??

I have a guys trip coming up in a week or so but only a couple others smoke cigars so I don't need 40. I think last year I took my 10 and my 15 and had more than enough. Orgy sounds like a fun trip half way across the country but, the problem with it is date. Thats full blown Football season. I give half of all my game checks to my daughter missing a game is taking money out of her pocket.
Maybe thats what I use for motivation when I wake up sore and tired all season?

Dousing the humidor or you?
If I was doused in 3 rounds of alcohol, I would be confident anything was ready for use. I don’t think the alcohol smell would be gone though.

First, I had to relearn to manipulate this style of cutter as I have almost exclusively used xikar-style cutters for years.
Not sure what you mean by bite (sounds negative), but the thing I've come to like about it is that once you line it up and close on the cap - it "bites" in and you don't get that slip over the top or slanted cut (assuming you lined it up right).
Give me a couple days - I've been wanting to do an experiment where I cut a few cigars side by side with each and compare the results.
