Its really grown on me.
First, I had to relearn to manipulate this style of cutter as I have almost exclusively used xikar-style cutters for years.
Not sure what you mean by bite (sounds negative), but the thing I've come to like about it is that once you line it up and close on the cap - it "bites" in and you don't get that slip over the top or slanted cut (assuming you lined it up right).
Give me a couple days - I've been wanting to do an experiment where I cut a few cigars side by side with each and compare the results.
Well it's like teeth so I imagine it would bite down and tear the wrapper and not leave a clean cut.
Like biting off the end of a beef stick versus cutting it with a knife ?

Don't think I ever held myself out to be an expert but I have bitten my fair share. I've never taken a bite from the beef stick of penna stogey at the Orgy though, despite him offering it up on multiple occasions

Just say your scared Josh, the mighty Cigarfest Orgy is a buffet of beef sticks... Remember young grasshopper, it's a buffet, not a competition!! Word to the wise.

So what's the verdict after some usage TJ ? Driving and listening to the podcast and he is really talking it up this week. Does it give a clean cut or does it bite the end of ? Inquiring minds want to knowhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220625/4de64b0d39c3e42b6ea807a5543cd852.jpg
Ok, here's a side by side comparison with a Xikar X3 with low miles on it.

The 60 rg cut had the biggest variance- the xikar kinda slid during the cut. Can totally blame it on user error and the fact the xikar is rated as upto 54rg and that this was just a one shot cut. That said, I believe the bite of the serrations helps prevent a slide like that.

Close up of the serrations- they aren't that pronounced - before purchase I pictured them being more like two steak knives coming together, but the photo shows otherwise. (Look at the back of the right-side blade)

You know I heard of a trick early on with the xikar. I never really use it but place xikar on a table insert cigar until the cap is touching table then close xikar to cut cigar

I like to try to just barely slice the cap off.

My new lighter.
Technically designed for pipes with the soft flame coming out the side instead of the top, and the 3 built in pipe tools, buts it is extremely classy looking with the zinc and leather, and the pick tool will be handy for my cigarette holder as it occasionally gets clogged with paper or tar. Plus its refillable. Got tired of basically wasting money on disposable lighters.
Was made by a U.S. company I have never heard of, but seems to be of very good quality for the price.

Ordered 2 inexpensive hygrometers that were recommended by article at Famous smoke shop . picked them up at post office and thought open them to see what battery they used before going home. Opened one and remembered they are Analog! Put one in humi with digital hygro I think is fairly accurate and after couple hours they are reading about same. So maybe an analog that actually works.

I recently picked up this Humidifier/Hygrometer Combo to see if it might be a better fit for the walk in. I've used wick based humidifiers for almost 20 years, but I've always wanted to try an ultrasonic cool mist humidifier. I've developed a reasonable expertise with the Govee app, and it's limited automation potential, so I'm looking forward to exploring the potential of this combo.

160 square foot room is their rating. Assume they assume 5' or 6' room height or humidity at head level. It's one of the things I want to check out when I fire it up.

160 sq ft (assuming standard ceiling height) should cover most all home walk-in humidors.
SoCal gunner, what is your set-up again, and how is it working?

SoCal gunner, what is your set-up again, and how is it working?I'm running a good sized evaporative humidifier wired to a digital controller in my roughly 160 cuft "step in". It holds about 5-6 gallons of DI water. In a desert climate I don't think I would want it to hold any less to avoid the stress of it running empty.

I never had the money for a good wooden humidor. Wooden ones that actually have a good seal are very pricey. Real shame as i love the look of a nice wooden humidor. Very classy, like good cigars deserve.

Not a purchase, came with a box order as a bonus from CI, but a really nice lighter so far.
Was using the Vertigo Hornet pictured above, but it doesn't have a visible fuel tank which kinda sucks since i have limited time too access my butane since we have to keep it in the maintenance shop and they leave at 4pm every day and are off on weekends, so if you dont know when its low you could be screwed.
Like the Rockwell's visible fuel tank much better and have been using it exclusively.
Works great every time, easy flame adjustment, and big fuel tank. Lasts a couple weeks of three times a day use, which is pretty good for a quad torch.
Never heard of them before but wouldn't hesitate to reccomend them at this point.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230209/4f8d0482b0211ec52128cc7183bc2436.jpg

No, it’s on a counter in the kitchen, easier to play cigar Tetris in there, instead of in the bedroom where they usually are. The seals on all the wood humidors I have ( all from Kayla cheaphumidors ) not only passed the “paper test” but the paper gave out before the seal would let it go. Plus once they are seasoned, imho/experience the cedar swells slightly, increasing the seal. They all keep my RH stable, and my sticks happy :stogie:

Eta: it's under serious consideration as I wood rather have a beautiful, large, wooden humidor than tupperdors or a wineador, which I have almost completely decided against based on Ljutic 's post in my thread about them, and if anyone knows about all types of cigar storage options, he definitely does, so I put a lot of stock in his opinions.
The Landmark would be able to hold just as many smokes as the 48l wineador I was considering, and looks gorgeous and classy, which is how I perceive cigars, and what causes me to store them in some attractive. I like 2 accessories drawers in it too.
Plus, coming from Kayla, I have every bit of confidence that it seals extremely well. I know she wouldn't sell leaky junk.
Will have to pick her brain about the Landmark on her return to the forum.

I got one of these for my first real cigar torch lighter, way back. It worked great, till I dropped it and it cracked. So I thought, let’s get a more expensive lighter. I’m sure there are some absolutely nice ones out there, but I have yet to find on as reliable as one of these. Grabbed a 3pk with butane, should be good to go for years now.

Actually Sean, if I’m not mistaken it’s you I need to thank for bringing them back to mind these many years later. I’m pretty sure you made a post about them not to long ago. I had a new $40 one that would not work consistently. When I saw the post, again, I think it was you. I thought, yep those are fantastic lighters.
Edit***
Plus, I know some fancier lighters have a visible Reservoir, but these you always see if they need filling, BEFORE you sit down to enjoy a stick.

Cuts look great with it - doesn't look like it tears at all. I thought the blade serrations were bigger as well. You may have sold meA little over a year, and this has planted itself as my go-to cutter.
And it gets even better...
After my heart sank when I dropped it in the sand, I put it away and figured a year was a good run. Then I got to looking at it as I was trying to blow it out and flush it w/alcohol. I noticed some tiny torx screws and went for it.

So easy and I got to clean it all out, polish the blades, and even snugged up on the torx screws to the thumb holds. I love this thing!

Already bought another for the enclosed cigar smoking porch and I'm sure it won't be long before I grab another for the golf bag. I only hope then my car doesn't get jealous and want one too !
I wouldn't have noticed those screws without you mentioning it. I'm impressed you got those out - looks hard to get a driver on them

Taking up some tips from others prior GWBowman Ljutic
I was already somewhat familiar with Govee as I had looked at them for a different monitoring scenario a few years back.
I got this set of wireless thermometers/ hygrometers from Govee. They connect via Bluetooth with my devices and also come with a WiFi gateway so I can monitor while away from home, or at least be alerted.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230731/2785c372940902a3bbbdcdafb0335ba9.jpg
As you can see, the sensors do not have their own displays but are small enough to tuck away within your cigars. They take up very little space.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230731/85ce96c37f7a439cf3af8eea49120417.jpg
The set came with 3 sensors and the Wi-Fi gateway. The gateway isn’t much bigger than a USB charging cube and plugs into any outlet. I think the set was on sale for about $50. You can have up to 10 sensors on the gateway. I think more if only using Bluetooth.
I checked the RH using the notorious salt test (IT WORKS!) They were all fairly consistent and within about 1% RH of the predicted value. The temps all read within 0.2-0.4° of each other. I waited until there were no further changes in RH and temp for 3 consecutive hours before reading and adjusting the calibration.
I know, this is overkill. It’s more of a fun curiosity than a need as I don’t believe we should be fussing over storage as much as some do.
I didn’t have anything monitoring my two totes, but relied upon trust that my humidification system works. What I didn’t have was a means to check when I needed to recharge the crystals with more water. Wasn’t too worried, as this is very infrequent in the sealed totes. Also I had Boveda in there and could tell when they were drying up that a recharge was needed.
The dashboard:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230731/26bc21f1bbb5bb1a8fcccaac3e9ca311.jpg
They also have hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly graphs and charts showing average, min, max, etc.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230731/2a851160958a075f650cbe94b145e3dc.jpg
As a side note, While I was at it, I picked up some moisture sensors to put on the floor in my utility room and near the sump pump. These will alert me both with phone and email notifications as well as emitting an audible alert. If you are following my smoking room / office conversion, the reason I’m redoing the floor is from a water incident involving the humidifier last year. Just a few weeks ago, we had another near miss as the air conditioning condensation outlet was plugged and backed up with condensed water flooding the floor. Between the humidifier, A/C condensation, water heater, water softener, floor drain; there are just too many sources for water damage. And it’s in an area rarely frequented, so any water could go undetected for a considerable amount of time.
So, in a way, these will also protect my smoking room.[emoji6], thus a smoking accessory.
I’m looking forward to see how these perform over time.

Not the first time these have appeared, as they have been in the background on the “What Did You Smoke Today” thread.
My local had a sale on these, so I picked them up as Christmas presents to myself. Told my family they could wrap and give them to me from them.

Probably a bit bigger than needed. This is the deep bowl.

Always felt the same on the XO; intrigued but curious on functionality. Would over to hear what you think of it.
It's bulkier than my Xi1, both in dimension and weight, so not as convenient to pocket carry. I haven't tried that in real life. I don't want to scratch it up right away. No more thick than my key fob, but wider. All the pocket stuff is cumulative.
Blades are sharp, as should be expected from Xikar. I like that both blades close evenly and simultaneously. If I press on one side of the Xi, one side closes before the other. I don't think that this makes any practical difference though. As soon as the first blade meets resistance, the other blade also closes with presumably the same force. I think this is just a perceptual or sales feature.
The XO can accomadate larger cigars, up to 70 RG (vs 60 for Xi) but those aren't my preference anyway.
I sometimes have to fumble around to find the release button to open it. Being circular, I have to feel for the button or visually inspect it to see the location. Compare to the Xi with the teardrop shape, and the way it's held, the release button is intuitive and your thumb falls right on top of it.
All in all, it cuts a cigar fine. Is the quality or ease of cut better? I don’t think so. Do the planetary gears appeal to my mechanistic affinity? Absolutely. I chose this model over the XO Ensō just because the gears are visible.
As a tool for cutting cigars, it performs well, but not necessarily better than other quality cutters. What it adds is uniquness and style. It may give up a bit in ergonomics.

I have the same... what did you call it? "mechanistic affinity". I love watches that give you a peek at the inner workings.
It does drive me a bit batty that my XI prefers closing one side over the other. I notice that effect less on the lotus jaws cutter I favor. I think the locked in gearing sounds wonderful, even if it adds complication.

Nothing special, but a nice deal.
Had these in a discount cart at the local grocer. $1.75 each.
Hard to have too many lighters!
Keep them in various locations I might need one. They break, get lost, etc.

Spent Saturday reorganizing the Step-In. I had a lot of boxes on display that were getting down to half or less of the original content, and manufacturer's boxes take up a lot of real-estate. It doesn't look as pretty, but I have a LOT more cigars within reach by putting them in open trays.
Anyway, I came in here to see if any one you BUMS recommend a large tabletop style lighter. No way you can beat something like Mark posted above, but I'd like one big lighter for the smoking room and another for the patio. I tend to run the pocket ones empty until there is a pile that forces me to start refilling them - LOL.

Been wanting a new nicer lighter without breaking the bank, so far I really like it. My last ashtray broke and been meaning to get one to replace it, finally found one that simple yet sturdy.
My wife got that for me as one of my BDay presents in Dec. it’s my favorite coffee and she accidentally broke the handle off my older one. So she got me an even nicer one to replace it.
