Original post---
Hi All,
As I've been pondering my cigar storage situation, as I'm sure every noob does once they get sucked into this hobby, I've come to realize that this summer temperatures will be an issue! South Louisiana summers are HOT and muggy and typically the AC is given a break while we are at work meaning the nice 68 deg temps I've gotten used to this winter will be no more. That leaves me realizing I may be in need of a wineador!!
Where are people finding the best prices for reliable wine coolers? I remember a thread a while back and elsewhere that identified some sources but they were mostly outdated! I will probably start with a bare wine cooler and consider drawers down the road.
As sources are identified I will try to keep this top post updated!

I bought mine from here: http://www.air-n-water.com/
got a killer deal on a scratch-n-dent model which only had very minimal cosmetic damage to one corner in the rear. it looks brand new and has been running perfectly for almost a year

Type in the code "welcome" at checkout. Brings the price down to $194.96 with free shipping. Then contact John Nelson for the shelves. He's top notch.

He only takes on 4 projects per month. He is super organized, professional, and prompt. He will tell you what month your drawers will be built and update you each week during that month with the progress. I've never dealt with someone that communicates like he does. It's amazing. And when he tells you when it will be done you can count on it. I placed my order January 5th so looking at a 2 month turn around for a complete custom setup.

That's what I had read as well - 10 per month.
I used Forrest at wineadors.com for my drawers - 2 orders now and probably going to have to go back for a couple of shelves
Just bought a NewAir 281 S&D from Air N water with code BUYNOW (20%) for about $120

Hope you don’t mind me adding this here... I ordered 2/25/15 and will have it by 4/15/15. He is fabulous, very open-minded and honest. Maybe a touch more expensive than someone else, but quality is way better. I looked at a couple builds side-by-side, one from John and the other from someone else and there is no comparing :)
"About John’s Woodworks
About me….
My name is John Nelson. I am now retired but in my work life I was a Tool and Die Maker. In my last job (27 yrs.) I ended up as Project Manager/Salesman/Engineer for a 20 man plastic injection mold manufacturing operation that was primarily working with Fortune 250 companies. I mention this to point out the fact that I know how to communicate with customers and manage schedules. I am a lifelong woodworker. Ten years ago, my brothers in law, who are cigar aficionados got me started making humidors. The technical aspects appealed to me as well as the artistic elements of furniture making in a small package. It was through the humidor business that I learned of Wineadors and the need for a quality, reliable supplier for those components. Here are my thoughts on how John’s Woodworks operates.
Quality….
I will always strive to provide the highest level of quality, exceeding my customer’s expectations. Everything I make is unconditionally guaranteed against defects, period. All my humidors as well as my wineador components are glued with water proof glue. Survival in a high humidity environment is never an issue with my products.
Delivery….
For wineador components, I can make up to five “sets” in 3 to 4 weeks. That is my lead time. When I receive orders for five sets, I will start a list of names for the next group. You can add your name at no obligation. When I complete the current group I will begin calling names on the list, soliciting a firm order. At that time you can say yes or no and I will either proceed or drop your name from the list. That is the fairest way I know to have a reasonable delivery and still accommodate however many potential customers I might have. At no time will I ever accept a premium to “pull ahead” someone’s order at the expense of other customers. I believe that is just wrong.
Communication,,,
I will provide a weekly update by email for progress on orders I am working on. In case of unforeseen catastrophes (illness, accident, the shop burns down?) I will call directly in order to resolve the issue.
Cost…
I have seen some of the other products that are in the marketplace. While I think the basic engineering is OK, I have made some mechanical as well as cosmetic improvements to my products. I believe (and I hope you agree) my pricing is in line with the quality and service I provide. I have measurements and pricing for the most common wine coolers. If you do not have one of those, if you send me the necessary dimensions I will be happy to quote pricing for you. For standard wineador components payment is on delivery. I prefer a check or money order. If that doesn’t work for some reason, PayPal is a second choice. I will send an invoice 10 to 14 days before I expect to have the order ready to ship so that delivery is not delayed waiting for payment. For custom orders, i.e. hardwood or veneered drawer fronts, a 50% deposit is required.
Options….
I offer the same options as others do. In addition I offer several additional options which I believe add value and/or beauty to the product. These are covered in my price sheets.
If you have any other questions or comments I will be glad to respond to them. In closing I can only add “All John’s Woodworks products are proudly made in the USA”"
this is the same business practices Iv used many times..worst part is time it take for communication with clients, always best to do that....but looking forward to that mental communication thing they said we would have by now...was that red or blue mac

I just got my stuff in from John today.
I'll post pics later. But he is SUPER organized and an absolute pleasure to do business with.
As mentioned, he will provide weekly updates. I'm not talking talking "Hey I cut some stuff for you today...", it's more like:
Progress Report for the week February 6, 2015:
Blanks are cut for shelves 100 % complete.
Joinery for shelves is 100 % complete.
Assembly for shelves is 25 % complete.
John
That is a copy and paste of one of my reports.
They shipped exactly when he said they would, he did not take a red cent till he started MY project and from what I've seen so far, the quality is fantastic.
I need to finish un-packing (when the kids are in bed) and test fit. But thus far, John has been an amazing guy to deal with.

I would imagine that it isn't necessary, you could store your sticks on the standard metal mesh shelving. However, it will still act as a buffer to humidity change, and in most applications I've seen it's used to better organize the cigars. If I were only storing singles I'd probably go with cedar lining/shelves/drawers. If I were only storing boxes I would just fill that bad boy up without cedar.
My 400 is full an my smaller humi's are full, so I need the storage...looked at that box an wondered why I couldnt use it that way..no metal in it...lookin towards a standup humi..

The cigars themselves act as a decent buffer though. I'd probably just go with enough to replace the shelving, but not too crazy and line every inch of the wine cooler's interior with it :)

Mine just has a couple pieces glued to the sides at the top shelf just because I think it looks nicer than the plastic sides and any help I can give it to help buffer the humidity change is good. As long as there's air flow I don't think there's such thing as too much cedar.

Wondering if any of you use anything to prevent your wineador from resetting to the lowest setting after a power outage? The power here on occasion flickers off just long enough to reset the fridge every time we get a storm and I'm afraid I'm going to forget to go down and reset it one of these times. I've heard some GFCI extension cords will trip with power outages so I'd need to reset it before it comes back on but just wondering if there's anything better out there that you guys use for this?

Could use a UPS for this to backup your wineador and keep it with constant power. Would totally prevent a quick surge from interrupting power.

So after close to 3 years of flawless wineador operation...mine has suddenly decided to create a daily pool of water collecting under the fan. I have the drain plugged. I also had applied several layers of electrical tape over the drain reservoir so that it is basically a funnel. It has been this way for at least the past year and i have never had any condensation build up there...let alone an actual pool of water. I have not changed anything recently so I am really dumbfounded why all of a sudden I have to mop up every day to get rid of this water. It is messing with my normally rock solid RH. Not cool man.
Any one have any ideas what is going on here??

I don't know about you, but my weather's been really wet here in VA. It rained for 6 days, non-stop. This increased ambient humidity to 75% inside the house. With the peltier working against the heat, this can and does cause rampant condensation. That said, unless you're getting in and out of the box a lot, or your seal is compromised, it's a virtually sealed system and shouldn't suffer from these conditions.
What's changed?

That's the weird thing. Absolutely nothing has changed. Weather has been the same lately. No excessive rain other than the typical florida afternoon shower. I have a Nest thermostat in the house so temp is very regulated. I have not been opening the door any more or less than I ever do.

What media do you use to regulate RH?
If it's something like litter or beads, is it too wet?
If they can't or won't absorb anymore water (possibly releasing it), moisture might be building in the humidor as it will have nowhere to go.
I think is what bit me in behind when mold popped up on a couple of cigars for me. I threw my litter into the oven for a bit and back into the humidor, it dropped the RH back to 66-65% and no more excess moisture.

I use several pounds of HF beads distributed from top to bottom. Usually if RH starts to creep up I take all the beads out and throw them in the oven and a day later everything is perfect again. I only noticed the water by a fluke chance of just checking in the back by the fan. I was shocked to feel water there. There has never been more than a few drops before. I will check the beads for saturation tonight but I just baked them about 2 months ago. Maybe I somehow just mysteriously developed a major leak.

Hey Kris, the daily pool of water is caused by the fan on the back not operating properly. The peltier assembly is a solid state device that rapidly cools on one side, and gets very hot on the other. These modules are "stuck" in between two heatsinks, one to pull the hot away from the pad and out the back of the unit and the other to pull the cold and have the fan blow into the fridge. Ice builds up on these pads in the right conditions, and will melt off when the pad is not running. When the fan on the back does not work properly, like being dusty, pet hair.... or it has failed, the peltier assembly gets very hot and heats up the inside part of the assembly and melts whatever frost maybe on the unit.
Long story short, I would check the fan on the back. I have 2 Whynter CHC-251S units and I check and clean the fans every month. I m an IT consultant and it is part of my routine when I clean my workstations and servers

Long story short, I would check the fan on the back. I have 2 Whynter CHC-251S units and I check and clean the fans every month. I m an IT consultant and it is part of my routine when I clean my workstations and servers
damn ok...I never even thought of that. I will check it tonight. Thanks!

When the fan on the back does not work properly, like being dusty, pet hair.... or it has failed, the peltier assembly gets very hot and heats up the inside part of the assembly and melts whatever frost maybe on the unit.

so both fans are working, no dust or dirt, etc so I guess that's not the issue either.

hmm....Has anything else changed in your environment or added new sticks? What has your ambient temp and RH been like in the room? The other things that has come has crossed my mind is that the peltier module, that is sandwiched between the 2 heat sinks has malfunctioned and is getting too cold on the inside and causing the inside heat sink to continually frost up.

nothing else has changed with temp or RH. I have not added any new sticks. I check the temp & RH in the unit frequently and have not noticed any fluctuations. I would think if it was getting too cold I would see the temp drop. I am going to unplug it over the weekend and see how the temp is since it is finally starting to cool down here.

Well just ordered my Wine-a-dor from Air n Water. After my beetle incident/scare I realized it was time to stop screwing around! Got a scratch & dent unit for $116 shipped with the "welcome" promo code which still works btw. Can't wait to get it in and I'll be sure to post a writeup as things progress!
