Since i have recently switched to using a punch exclusively, and plan to continue, would like some opinions on a good one to replace the free one i got with a plastic My Father ashtray. It doesn't seem like its sharpened much, if any.

Any particular brands I should be looking for?

Xikar punch has served me well but the customer service and quality is not on the same level as it used to be. But those spark plug punches look cool

Unfortunately, the ones i saw were in the $50 range which I just can't justify for a simple cigar punch

Rat tail file and an empty .223 casing. Make your own.

I’ll shut up now.

What he said was what I was thinking. I found Xikar punches, prebeing sold were good. Have not purchased any new ones in years. I have used several ones on lighters and promo ones in the past and not noticed much difference. A strop with a little polishing compound may sharpen just about any punch nicely I would imagine. I may have to give it a try.

I seldom use punches any more, but for a while I sharpened several sizes of nickel cartridges with a deburring tool (with old primer punched out so you could push out any tobacco stuck inside).

Yeah, unfortunately all brass for reloading is 6hrs away. I'm not even sure if they would allow it here, sadly.

But i have heard of that trick before

Good and timely thread...

I had a keychain cheapie punch that lasted me a good couple years. Not sure the brand, but it was black and red and had a retract button that failed after about a year, but the punch blade was pretty sharp and held up. The keyring fell off last week and now the punch is no where to be found.

Think I'm going to go with a metal base and keyring with a cap, instead of a button, for my next punch.

For anyone looking for bulk, el cheapo cigar punches, here is a box of 25 from Walmart for $10

Got my Pardo double punch combo. Cigar multi tool may be a better name for it. It's pretty sweet in form and function. As with most things, it's not flawless. The large punch will need to be deburred before I start using it. I've got the tools to do it so it's not a big deal. For those that don't sharpen their own knives, or only have a kitchen steel I'd take a pass on the Pardo punch. Very poor QA.

Well, thats not the greatest news as I'm currently waiting for mine to ship, and i have no tools here other than a highly against the rules, folding knife.

May have to pick up a small file after i can take a close look at it.

How does the nubbing tool and draw tool look, especially the draw tool as i have never needed or used a nubber?

I have the Xikar 11mm. I generally like it, mostly because I prefer a bigger hole. However, this is my second one, the first had to be replaced via warranty because I twisted it the wrong way and broke (possible indication of the quality).

I was also gifted a Cuban Crafters punch that I use occasionally, which is not bad, but has a smaller ring.

My main interest in it is the single unit combination of pretty much everything you could need for a cigar, and will be great for trips as nothing can get lost or forgotten to bring since its all screwed together. Plus, i have an 8mm and 9.5mm punch, and wanted a larger 11mm one too, so i have 1 to fit a wide variety of different rg's, but they are hard to find separately and are all way more than I'm willing to pay for a single punch. $30+ for a single punch is just way too rich for my blood. Zabhatton's Xikar is a perfect example. They were by far the most common one i saw, but carried that high Xikar price tag.

In theory, this tool is awesome. We'll see how it is in reality after Bruce's burrs on his 11mm punch on the tool. Hopefully he just got the one that missed a step and got past QA. Just like cigars, and everything else manufactured no matter what it is, everyone makes a dud sometimes...

Got my Pardo 4 in 1 tool today. Looks and the punches at least, work great. The draw tool has blades the entire length, so may be even better than the PerfecDraw which only has a couple inches of them at the end.

Punches twist out, you unscrew for the nubbing tool and draw tool. Will be great for trips. Everything all in one relatively small tool vs multiple separate tools i was usinghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230110/5564399702a7f6b133f3aa665f1748d7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230110/8a48ef1101969c94c6909b942d503e03.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230110/2954b77892de65b5ceda4f540c839d2d.jpg
