While I don't have the exotic collection of cobs you have, in addition to the many used cobs in my collection, I almost always have 6 to 10 unsmoked cobs on hand waiting to be sent in to action. In short, you can never have enough cobs, and can certainly never have too many.

Great collection of cobs there!
I don't have any fancy ones, just a bunch of good ol' cobs. Probably 15 or 20. I love my cobs. They smoke wonderful, dry, and take a beating like no other pipe.
I don't own any of those Old Dominion cobs, but I like the look of them....unfortunately I have heard they have major burn out issues....like within 10 bowls they pretty much spontaneously combust while sitting in your rack bad....How are yours holding up OnePyroTec?

Some great looking cobs there. I think I have about 6 cobs but have another arriving today (a Marc Twain) and a new Forever Stem shows up tomorrow. They are great smokers.

Let me know what you think about that Twain cob. I almost bought one over my latest General, but wanted the bigger bowl so went with the General instead...but I am curious the actual size difference between the two.
I want a cumberland stem for my General(s) so bad. I think it would make them pop, but at the end of the day spending 27ish bucks on a stem for a 9 dollar pipe....hard to stomach :ambivalence:

Same here.
I've been known to smoke 3 bowls consecutive with no rest in a cob. I would never do that with a nice briar.
If the cob burns out, who cares. They're cheap. At least mine are. Those in the OP don't look too cheap. ;)

Wayne- have you smoked one from Old Dominion Pipe COmpany yet? After seeing their website a while back I am curious.

I thought that too but don't think about it as one stem for your single 9 dollar cob. It's a way better stem that will go on ALL your cobs...I don't know about you but my cobs combined add up to a lot more than 9 bucks and my stem goes great on all of them... fixes the loose open draw too, which is what I hated most about smoking a cob.

I love cobs too. In fact, my Briar pipes have been a little neglected lately.

I have smoked the large & the small Old Dominion pipes. The middle sized one is still new. Of the two I have smoked, I have smoked them a lot without burnout. On the large pipe, I did burn off the shank and had to sand it a bit to stuff it back in the cob. They don't glue in the reed shanks, just sand or file down a bit and stuff it in.

Ditto. And I tap them on the ashtray when emptying them. Would never do that with a briar or meer.
I've bought a couple of the 10-packs of MM seconds; still have most of them. I keep a number of them unsmoked for guests and newbie starter kits (cob, wooden golf tee, pipe cleaners, stick matches, and tobacco samples).

Back to back bowls often in cobs. As said, they are cheap.
The only ones that I have that really are not cheap are the R.Santia cobs. The bone rings along each were a bit more than a 10 pipe grab bag.
I got the old ones on ebay cheap, and the bamboo shanks didn't cost a lot neither did the stems.

Thank you for writing my noobie shopping list for me!! Good call on the golf tee, that's one item off the list that I already have lol! Great thread

Eventually you'll want to get a proper tamper/scraper tool, but a wooden golf tee will do in a pinch :) I got that idea from a Pufferette who does not seem to have found her way to the new site.

I use a golf tee from time to time too. It is the only thing that seems to fit in the little Old Dominion pipe. All my other tampers are just a slight bit too large.

I started with a golf tee. I never did switch to a proper tamper until one was included with a batch of estates I purchased.

I use a golf tee all the time when I am on the course. Works great.
Why bother digging around for a tamp when I have tees all over my pockets?

I use a clothes peg for a tamper.

Wayne I see that at the top of one of your displays you have a spool cob.:pipe: In my early days with my first experience with cobs I had this beautiful spool cob that smoked so well, but unfortunately I smoked it too hot and it burned out; it was burnt out so bad it reminded me of a Mac Arthur cob that Commonsenseman had posted on the old Puff Forum that was burnt out.:crushed: Just seeing your spool cob lets me know that I will have to replace it soon!:cheerful:
