Ive been getting a bunch of emails about a potential big spike in federal tobacco taxes (as im sure many of u have). If the bill passes, when will it go into effect for cigars? Anyone know when the vote is taking place? Ive tried doing a little research but that stuff just makes my head spin so figured id reach out to the higher educated Bums. My take away was that itd be the start of next yr for cigars. Non-political responses please!

That sucks.
Hadnt heard about it as I quit watching or reading any news 1.5 years ago when I moved to the veteran's home and have been much happier for it. All it ever did was aggravate me, especially during the election season

Its congress so no telling. Be worried when you get the email it has passed. Until then you can support cra and email your state reps.

That’s why I keep hundreds of cigars to avoid these vultures putting their stinking hands in my pockets.

I think my Representative and Senators are getting tired of me calling and telling them my expectations of them and will do everything in my power to get them replaced in their next election if they vote for stoopid chit. They are getting ready to vote for giving almost $80 Billion to double the size of the IRS to enforce tax collection. Vote happens this Thursday in the House. Speak up or shut up!

Speak up and speak out.
Do it in a professional and courteous manner: don't give them (their aides) a reason to discount it.
Pre-done forms are great, but always change a couple lines/subject title with your own words - they may track how many duplicate responses they receive in an attempt to marginalize them.

One of my representatives leaves the country on a vacation during a state emergency, doubt we can count on him.

I wonder what good it even does in many cases. My congressmen are party line demonrats who never saw a tax increase they didn't like. They'll vote party line on this no matter how many calls they get.
Now for the good news: I've seen this coming for years. I have more pipe tobacco than I could ever smoke and plenty of cigars. And tho I'd probably run out of cigars eventually, it will be a long, long time at the rate I go thru them.
Any of you looking to stock up better do it now because if this passes there will be a run on cigars that'll compare to 9mm ammo.

No, I am just saying that these elected people represent you, so I think it's vitally important to let them know where you stand. It's a We The People thing.

I think that's wishful thinking these days. I think, with few exceptions, that they represent the party line and their own self interests - like somehow always getting filthy rich while 'serving' in office. This is a problem with the establishment in both parties and it is the reason that the Big Orange Middle Finger was elected, still remains popular, and probably will be elected again if he decides to run.

You know I am glad that the tax is removed but I like how it was based on weight maybe that will stop all these stupid giant cigars

I vote NO on every tax increase that is on a ballot and have done so for years. Not that it has done any good, but I get to vote again Tuesday with a NO.
