]Hi one and all! Dave here from the Eastern Shore of Maryland Originally from Richmond, VA. Moved to MD when I was 38. Just joined this family today. . .actually found it while searching for coupon codes. No luck on the codes, but I think I'm gonna like this better as time goes on:loco:

I've only been into this hobby / passion since May, and so far have just smoked 3 - 4 times a month, but I've spent a lot of time reading, watching cigar and humidor reviews on YT, etc....and buying stogies online!! Always looking to learn more about cigars, different types of tobaccos, how and where grown, differences between them - --and really anything relating to this fantastic hobby. Also enjoying keeping detailed "journal" entries abut each stick I smoke.
Thanks for reading this rambling blather, and for letting me be a part of the family.

Welcome.
One thing for coupon codes I do: make a new email dedicated to cigar stuff, and sign up for emails from the different online vendors with that new email. Now all codes are in one spot Hope this helps, but be warned your wallet may suffer!

Also, most places (us included) will send a coupon code if you put an item into your shopping cart and fill out all of the info for shipping but then do not proceed to checkout.

Another coupon tip- contact them saying you’re a first time customer and just politely ask if they have any coupon codes. This has surprisingly worked for me numerous times! I think most places know how much competition is out there

Thank you!! It's kind of embarrassing to say, considering I've been in this hobby for 3 months now, but - between my wife's well meant but extreme fear of "health risks" and the often rainy/ miserable weather we get here on the Shore...coupled w/ the fact I can't smoke inside - I haven't smoked many! That being said, of the ones I've had, my 3 faves (in order) are: 1) Macanudo Cafe Hyde Park, 2) Drew Estate Legends, and 3) Factory Smokes Sweet. The only 2 I disliked from what I've had were the Oliva Serie G, and Perdomo 10th Anniversary Reserve Champagne epicure. The Oliva I just flat did not like. The Perdomo was a different story, I liked the flavor of it pretty well, but it seemed a bit stronger than I was prepared for!! Before I finished it, I was sweating and nauseous. Not sure why because I smoked it on a full stomach and, if anything, probably smoked it slower than most people would. Anyway, I've put the Champagne on my "give it another try later" list so it'll get another chance once I'm more experienced and my Nicotine tolerance has improved.

Hey Kevin!! Thanks for the welcome!! So with me showing up, you've moved up a rung on the seniority totem poll, eh?...LOL...that's a good thing!! I've always hated being the "lowest guy on the totem poll" ever since I showed up as a Freshman for my first day in high school! Fortunately, though, I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna like being part of CigarBums a LOT more than I did being a high school student. I've already caught a glimpse of what you mean about everyone being very friendly. Exactly what I was searching for (if you don't include the coupon codes, that is). Now if everyone can just stay awake for my novel length posts (like this one), all will be good. On the other hand, if you ever get insomnia, you know what to read to cure it...just look through my posts...LMAO. Good to "meet" ya friend.

Hello Kayla and thanks for the welcome! I'm about to publicly embarrass myself for being the complete "noob" that I am, but there's nothing like the truth, so here goes. When I filled out my profile at registration time, I of course saw the box saying essentially "put your address here if you'd like to receive bombs." That's when I had a "Duuuuuhhhh moment”. I'm sitting there going, “BOMBS? Why would I want to be bombed, of all things? Surely it can't mean an exploding cigar. What are they talking about? You never know these days. I'll just leave it blank.” And yes, I'm serious.I might be dumb, but ya gotta admit I'm honest. Mom would be proud (well, semi proud) Anyway, thanks much for the kind thought and the welcome!

Hi Steve and thanks!! I see you're from the "land of Truman"...the "show me" state, if I remember correctly. (And, if I don't, I just made a fool of myself...lol) COOL! Ol "Give Em Hell, Harry" was one of my heroes when I grew up. I admired his no BS, "Buck stops here", tell-it-like-it-is outlook. Always wanted to visit his presidential library but never made it. I'm an old disabled goat now and can't travel, but I've got some postcards of it and my lifelong love of American history. ANYWAY. . .so what are your favorite stogies?

Hey Dave. Ol Harry was born in the small town of Lamar, MO and every fall they have a celebration called Truman Days. Lamar is 30 minutes away. We attended 2-3 years ago and toured his birthplace home. As expected it was very basic, rustic and small 2 story house filled with many Truman artifact from his childhood. The stairway going upstairs was maybe 18" wide and extremely steep and the rooms were tiny, like 8'x8' tiny. Later in life the family moved to Independance MO which is up by Kansas City.
As far as cigars, I am a Fuente guy. But have enjoyed cigars from several other makers that I have enjoyed equally well. What cigars do you enjoy?

Steve, thanks for sharing the Truman related info, man! So you're only 30 mins away from where HST was born? How cool is that!! The way you describe his birthplace sounds a lot like I pictured it might. Amazing how folks from such a humble beginning can sometimes make it so far in life. 8x8 roms huh? Don't know if I could've hacked that, but then again, if it had room for a desktop humidor, I guess I'd have gotten by. Trouble is, at that size, it didn't have enough room for the desk! LOL. I'm sure you've probably heard this story but, in case you haven't, here goes (true story): When HST was president, Jack Benny came to the WH to do a show. Not surprisingly, he had his violin case with him. A Secret Service agent jokingly asked, "What ya got in that case, Jack?" Benny, in his world famous sarcastic way, replied, "It's a machine gun"...to which the agent responded, "Thank God!! I thought it was your violin!"
I haven't tried a Fuente stick yet. From what little I've seen online, it doesn't appear they make a mild or mild to medium stick, which is about all I can handle right now. Or maybe I just haven't run across the right one yet. Do you know of any they make on the mellower side? In my VERY limited experience so far, I've fallen for the Macanudo Cafe Hyde Park, and a couple Drew Estate sticks.

Lol, I hadn't heard the Jack Benny story before. He could make a violin make some incredibly screechy noise and he used it as a great prop. As far as mild Fuente cigars, I tend to enjoy more medium/full cigars most of the time. One of their most popular vitolas are the 858. They come in a variety of wrappers to choose from and they would be a good place to start exploring. The Sun grown, Rosado Sun Grown or Natural may be something you would enjoy. I am in no way an expert on any cigars, I just recognize a cigar that I enjoy smoking. There are a lot of those for me. But I only smoke maybe 3 cigars a month.

Looks like I'll be trying my first Fuente stick about a month from now. I'm ordering a sampler that Kram311 put me onto from the "Perfect cigar Blend" site. It includes a Fuente Double Chateau Natural. I see they also carry a bunch of rather large Fuente samplers, but many of them are sold out at the moment. Obviously good stuff! (BTW, I try to "rest" sticks for 30 days before smoking them. That's why I won't be smoking anything from the sampler for at least a month.) Anyway, I made note of your recommendation on the 858 vitola, and that's the next thing I'll be looking for. I 'll definitely let you know how that went once I've had a chance to smoke one. Thanks for the recommendation!

Dave, also Che k out the Fuente Hemingway line. They are moderately priced, are not a strong cigar and are a great value IMO. If you find you prefer something more full, Anejos are really tasty

Duly noted - and thanks for the further recommendations. One can never have too many when it comes to things like this - -at least I can't! I think I've got "stogie fever" if there is such a thing. You know, I think I might've run across the Hemingway line awhile back when I was cruising the various manufacturer's lines on God only knows which online shop's site. It seems to ring a bell, but I didn't stop to read about it, so I've added it to my "research and possibly buy" list. You used two important tag lines to describe it: not strong and moderately priced. Sounds like the 2 of the 3 main key criteria for me!
