Looking for opinions on the Xikar xi2.

Previously had a Xikar cutter, don't recall the model, and am considering buying an xi2 to replace the cheap cutter I have been using as it occasionally cracks the cap and wrapper.

It seems to be about the cheapest xikar, but still about $40, and since I have a tight budget, wanted some opinions on it before buying.

Thanks,

Sean

I have a xikar worked great for 10+ years now. If thats too much you might consider a palio about half the price.

Nice and SOLID cutter. Had mine for about 2-3 years, with no complaint. Cutters are probably the only Xikar hardware I'd buy again.

Not a fan of the lighters, but I've only owned the 3x jet, but it alone has dissuaded me from future Xikar lighters. Thankfully that lighter recently took a shit, and is resting in hell. Gurkha knows how much I hated that lighter.

Also, check out Cigarbid. You could probably score way cheaper than $40, but remember the shipping.

I've also been looking on Poshmark, Ebay, and Offerup lately for hardware. Not really in need of anything, but I would like to upgrade on the cheap.

As others said, it’s a solid cutter!
A little pricey, but worth it IMO.
No experience with the V cutter that AlanS mentioned. If you want a V cutter, I like the colibri!

I have had a xi2 for about 3 years and have no complaints. I don't remember where I got it, but I'm sure it was cheaper than $40. I also still have a stainless Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter than is well over 10 years old and is still sharp and works great. I think they run about $20.

I do much better with the style like the xi2

I think you will like the xi2. I hope you find one you like at a great price.

I think you will like the xi2. I hope you find one you like at a great price.Yeah, I am fairly sure that the one i had before was an xi1 or xi2, and it worked great for years.
Been quite a while since I had it and wasn't sure if the quality had remained the same.
Unfortunately the cheapest I have found is $35 plus shipping and its $39 with free shipping on Amazon so its a wash.
Also looking at the Colibri Cut. Have heard some good things about them as well, and its the same price.

V-cutters do seem to make up about half the cutters I see people using, so I'm considering that too.
Honestly not sure what the benefit of a v cut is

It gives a different draw IMO. Some ways it seems a little more “open”. Seemingly even more than a straight cut.
Again, just my $0.02.

Have owned both the Xikar and the Colibri V cutters. Both great cutters, but I like the Colibri so much more. The Colibri V-Cut is deeper then the Xikar. Just my .02 and that's all it's really worth.

At Bestcigarprices if you order a 10ct box of Cuesta Ray cigars for around $50 you get a FREE Xicar xl1. Cuesta Ray are made by Fuente. I have never smoked one.

They do make for a more open draw and some do "angle" the cut in tapered cigars to direct the smoke either upwards or down to aid the mouth taste.
Had Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter V cutter that worked well for a couple of years until it was dropped and broken, have a couple of cheaper ones, but they don't cut cleanly, so no longer use that type of cutter.

It figgers that a Youngster like You missed the Cuesta Rays, they were one of the better brands a good long while ago. That would've been when they used the 'clear'Cuban leaf, yeah, long time back.

Have decided to try a v-cutter, the Xikar VX2, instead as many say it helps give a more open draw, and i prefer a very open draw.
Not a real problem with 50+ rg Cigars, but fairly common to be too tightly rolled with the 42 and under rg's in my experience.
