View Full Version : How many of you cigar &/or pipe smokers have gotten a bout of Covid19

Just wondering how many have actually gotten it (and recovered, obviously). There were some suggestions in studies early on that smoking - and by smoking they always mean cigarettes - decreased the chances of getting it but increased the complications in those that did get it. Of course, you can never believe these kinds of things since people can spout anything they want on the internet but by the same token, if it actually was true, the powers-that-be would NEVER let on for fear of more people taking up smoking as a result. So I just wonder how many of y'all have actually gotten the bug.

I haven't gotten it. (that I know of - may have been asymptomatic who knows)
I also don't know of any other pipe/cigar smoker who has - although I admittedly know very few other pipe/cigar smokers.

Nope but we have been extra safe. Not for me or wife but my wife's parents that we see occasionally and who watch my daughter from time to time.

To my knowledge I have not had it. My wife has been sick twice with possible Covid, got a negative test once. The 2nd time she got sick I gave her daily Vitamin D3 and Zinc and seemed to improve fairly rapidly. She won't continue to take them daily. I take a quality Men's Old Timers Multi Vitamin, Vit D3 and Zinc daily and haven't even had a sniffle yet. Knocking on head! Also, I am a cig smoker, so if that is a deterrent, so be it.

I know 2 people who tested positive and one recovered reasonably quick. The other got his ass kicked and had a stroke about 2 weeks after getting better. He is still in rehab trying to regain use of his arm and speech, but is making very good progress and will be going home very soon.He is in his mid 60's and extremely obese.

I have not; nor anyone in my large family despite still attending schools, going into work daily and my wife is a teacher exposed to many adolescent children where they have had several reported positive tests.

This is a great curiosity considering the reported protection measure. Some factors may be frequency of smoking as I know a few can be infrequent at times :poke:

I think this needs to be made into a poll. Perhaps some may want to remain anonymous.?

My co-oworker (not a smoker) got hospitalized twice in the same week for covid and a month later (just this past week) suffered 3 hemorrhages in his brain. He was lucky though as he recovered within 2 days and is feeling normal.
I've only known one cigarette smoker who has gotten it and he recovered. But his wife didnt make it, she had too many underlying conditions. They're both in their late 70s.
Cigar smokers, 3 of my cousind had it and although they were pretty miserable for 5 days or so, they didn't need to be hospitalized.

I myself thought I had it and quit smoking for 1 month just in case, but I did see an article saying that smokers are not only not more likely to be more sick, but they might actually get less sick than non-smokers. It's being studied right now, but the current leading theory is that nicotine's anti inflammatory properties are helping smokers not get covid.

I haven't had it (unless it was asymptomatic). With my wife on immunotherapy for cancer and with the lung damage done by the cancer and related pneumonia, we're playing it as safe as we can. Which sucks because it impacts how we interact with the family (none of whom live with us).

And you QUIT smoking??? What are you trying to do, kill yourself??? :p :p :p

So that's the mechanism eh? I know the bad cases of covid tend to cause some massive, inflammatory immune response so I guess that would make perfect sense. I guess the inflammatory response tends to thicken the blood and that's what aggravates the possibility of a stroke. Can you just see the Health Dept on a 'Start Smoking NOW' campaign? Hahaha!!

Have at it if you want. Didn't really think of all the privacy/HIPAA stuff. IDK how to turn it into a poll after the fact...

I always knew my last words would be “I should have smoked more cigars.”

Nope, been lucky so far. Working at the Health Department I'm indirectly around it all day every day. Our nurses and other staff are out delivering quarantine orders, thermometers and stuff to quarantines and positives every day and then back in the office handing paperwork to me, and I spend some time running back and forth to the test site to run the samples back to our lab for testing. We've had several positives in the department, including my boss, but so far so good.

Know people that have gotten it and a couple that haven't made it and my boss is younger than me but looks like she's going to be out 2 weeks because she's having a tough time with it. But to the best of my knowledge none of them are cigar smokers

All good here. Had a friend get it but he had very mild symptoms.

I've been extremely lucky. My sister is the only person I know who's gotten it and she just had a mild cough for a week or so. I know so many people are hurting right now and have lost loved ones. I honestly don't even know of an acquaintance who's gotten a bad bout of it. Let's hope those vaccines are safe and effective and we can all see the end of the tunnel soon.

Monkey and pig parts, no thanks. I’ll be issuing shots here not receiving them. Be well
I’d don’t see a scramble for vaccines for cancer or heart disease and they both kill at a much higher rate, I must have missed something! BE WELL

Lol well cancer and heart disease aren’t viruses that can be cured by a vaccine. And I’m pretty sure trillions of dollars are spent each year on cancer and heart disease research and medicine.

But hey, if you don’t want to take the vaccine, that’s your choice.

I probably had it and was asymptomatic. I say this because I tested positive for the antibodies. But never tested for the virus itself.
I'm more of a cigarette smoker these past few months. So if that helps, I guess that I won't be getting COVID-19!
Considered an essential worker so I've been out every day. Just being cautious, frequently washing my hands, social distancing when possible and wearing a mask when I can't keep a distance.
I've always had a pet peeve about people that DON'T practice safe hygiene when coughing, sneezing, wiping their nose without a tissue/handkerchief. This COVID-19 business just amplified my safe hygiene practices.
Have you ever known/seen a maintenance man that goes crazy when his hands get dirty?! That's me.

I am currently putting this to the test. I was recently directly exposed (was within 2 feet) of someone who tested positive for Covid today. So I have a test on Wednesday and have to quarantine until I get results. I am going to miss Christmas with my family for the first time in my life. Trying to stay positive (no pun intended)

Thank you all. So far no symptoms. I have been taking multi vitamin for a little help anyways, and I'm a big fruits and veggies guy so I'm sure that'll help. For extra measure decided to smoke a cigar today and also I did get a bottle of bourbon so I'm cleansing my insides as I type this as well

Krazy.a test that the maker said should not be used to detect viruses, giving false positive or negative results in about 87 percent of tests.
See a doctor, and He sez take tylenol for the pain, wont prescribe an Anibiotic because they don't work for viruses.if You have trouble breathing go Hospital.
But wear a face diaper despite they will cause the Blood oxygen level to drop Hypoxia, now aint that just great.

Great news! See? It's all because of those cigars you smoked. Surely this is how science works: you accept the results that agree with your foregone conclusion. The global warming folks have been doing it for years. Before them, it was the ozone hole folks. I don't see why we can't do the same... HAIL TOBACCO, CURE OF ALL!!!

I mentioned this in another thread but I thought I'd add it here as well. I had the Covid-Chinese illness for a few days. I still have minimal smell and taste, but I was overall very lucky to not have any other complications. However my wife, Stephanie has had it for 14 days now. Today was the first day that she has been able to move around much, and sit up for any length of time. She is quiet healthy (lost weight a few years ago to be in her expected weight class and beat T2 diabetes) however Covid has really done a number on her, from entire body pain, multiple seizures and days of fever. But, it's looking promising after the last two days of some relief!

We never felt this sickness was "not real" but we were never afraid of it (she might be now)...living and enjoying life as we should. We're blessed to be at this point, but we would not wish it on anyone.

Sadly, due to a little congestion...I've held off on smoking any cigars or the pipe for a few weeks. I can not wait to light one up soon!
