Intro:
Well, my bums, it's been almost three weeks since my last review. I was mulling over taking a week sabatical from smoking around the time of the last review. Life has interesting ways of forcing your hand or giving you a nice kick to the nuts to jumpstart the thoughts we mull over. I wanted to take a week off, because I've been smoking more than ever, and I felt like a good break would be best for me. Let's just say that life gave me that kick to the nuts, and jumpstarted that sabbatical I had mulled over...plus gave me a bit more.
Pre-Smoke Judgement:
They're Gurkhas. Got both for a buck each and they've been resting for about a year. Not gonna enjoy them. But they'll give me my dollar's worth. I'll learn about the brand, gauge my senses, and maybe I get the highly sought after Cigarbum Gurkha badge.
Hudson Bay:
Only smoked about two inches of it. Mild-plus kinda body. Very light broadleaf kinda flavor. OK tobacco flavor. CI says it has a San Andres wrapper - didn't get any of that. Didn't really get any of what CI said. But I also wasn't interested in smoking it fully to discover it. It did have some kind of flavor what was new to me, maybe it was leather; but it made me think rustic, and kinda sharp (like broadleaf). I never really thought of what leather would taste like, until Nature reviewed the Leather Rose and described leather, but I believe I read his review after smoking the Hudson Bay. My nose wasn't where it should be, so the retrohales weren't pleasurable, and all interest was gone.
Kukri:
I'm typing this review well into the 3/3. It's been the first cigar I've fully smoked in about three weeks. It's actually not that bad, kinda enjoyable for a mild to mild plus smoke. Not much flavor change since the beginning. Woodish kinda flavor. Very smooth. Decent tobacco flavor. Burns great. A cup of strong coffee would've went nicely with the Kukri. Had a bit of pepper at first - maybe within the first inch. Pretty mellow, and relaxing kinda smoke. Get's kinda nutty on the retrohale and residual. A little tobacco bite.
Trial By Smoke Judgements:
Pass on the Hudson Bay - unless you're a Gurkha fan, of course. If you a fan of the brand, I'd say for the pricepoint, you probably couldn't go wrong. I only smoked a couple inches to smoke something and guage my senses. If it had interested me, I would've smoked more, but it didn't.
The Kukri, on the other hand, was pretty good for a buck, it's pricepoint, and for being a Gurkha and for being a mild-to-mild-plus kinda smoke. If you enjoy mildish smokes at a bargain, check out the Kukri. So far, outta maybe 10 Gurkhas i've smoked, this has been my #2 favorite, and right behind, I believe, the Heritage Maduro.
