I know this is not the proper location for this, but figured this is the best place for exposure.
Please check in and post how you are doing through these difficult times. I find myself thinking and wondering about my fellow Bums and concerned about you all. Are you still working? How is Covid19 affecting your area? Are you being as safe as possible, staying home, washing hands, social distancing etc?
My wife and I are both retired and have been staying home for the last 21 days. We have make quick specific grocery runs 3 times and then head home and clean up as best we can. I told kids and grandkids to stay away, but to please call and visit often. Emotionally we are doing well. On nice days I get outside and do yard work and am getting close to having the garden ready to plant. Love doing stuff like that. I also get in a cigar once in a while.
They have not tested very many people for Covid around here (SWMO) but have had some positives. I figure there are likely more cases, but we just try our best to remain safe. Our next door neighbor is making us masks that we will use in future trips for necessities.
Please post here so we know how you all are doing.

All well here in NYC!
The wife & I are considered "essential" so we're still back and forth to work. The rest of the family are "shut-in-place".
Practicing social distancing. I wash my hands about 100 times anyway (you ever see a maintenance worker who hates to have dirty/greasy hands!) I wear nitrile gloves, but they're constantly tearing. So I just wash often.
I'm being cautious, but also think that the media is sensationalizing the situation.

Started my 2 week quarantine Friday. Couple fellas contracted the Corvid within the shipping dept. so we’ve all been sent home. Been in contact with the 2 affected and they’re feeling OK but they have families so staying at apartments/hotels to keep everyone safe.
Docs don’t wanna test me yet, but I’m in contact with them every few days. Hopefully no symptoms arise.
Stay safe out there Ya Bums and do everything you can to protect you and yours!

Thanks Brian and Joe. Please keep us updated.
Brian, I have little faith in what we are being told and I too am skeptical. But no doubt some bad shit is going on.
WNYTONY I would love to hear your perspective on this.

No change for me. Work, cigar, home, deal with relatives. Only thing I miss is going to the B&M. Wash rinse repeat.

Been sent home with a union contract that gives me full pay and benefits for the foreseeable future. So we found a beautiful home (killer deal) on the coast for a month. It’s only an hour or two from home. Sweet, hope all are well!
Counting boats and building puzzles with my favorite girl!
By the way the mortality rate associated with this is 1% or less. Hope it passes soon but I love the fresher air slower pace and extra space.

Steve, Thanks for checking in!
Doing well here. Kids are e-learning from home including 2 college students. Wife is teaching her classes online.
I am still going in to work, although had to take a 25% temporary pay reduction - business is way down. Working even more though as half of the company was furloughed so I am taking up some additional duties; everything from housekeeping (we cancelled cleaning services) to regulatory and executive. Of those of us that remain, half are working from home. I am able to stay isolated at work as we are spread out in the building and my office is isolated away from everyone else anyway. Can't say I don't mind the very easy commute now without any traffic.
Making very few trips out of the home; about 1 brief grocery store trip a week and nothing else besides work for the last 3 weeks.
Trying to keep my other kids and 1 year old granddaughter away, but they have popped in once or twice briefly. I made them all wash their hands upon arrival and departure. My wife thinks I am now a clean-freak; wiping & sanitizing doorknobs, light switches, handles-- all the high touch areas, several times a day; even though nobody in my house has gone out at all except the wife once or twice to the store. Doing the same in my car.
Like Steve, I am trying to get outside when I can for a walk or working in the yard as weather permits.
Hoping everyone else is safe. I will do my part to continue to contribute to the cause. I am not concerned for myself or direct family members of the illness, but I do not want to put myself, family, or co-workers into a mandatory quarantine situation (as if they aren't already by virtue.)
Like Brimy, I keep wondering how much of this is blown out of proportion and sensationalized.
Can't wait to get past this shit! It is going to be a long recovery.

That’s exactly how I felt Brian.
Working as an essential worker in a place that produces Water purifying and Air Purifying UV lamps mainly used in Hospitals that we would be ok. Turns out not so much. We have an ozone blow everyday before people show for work and uv lamp stations setup al over that kill all germs within an 8 feet box. 2 brothers caught the bug already even with all these precautions in place. Mainly the problem is that people ain’t doing what is right at home and then bringing it to there places of employment.
Just stay safe and do all you can to protect your loved ones bro. This pandemic doesn’t care what we think.... it just attacks and is multiplying.
Glad to hear all you Bums are doing well! We're doing well on our parts. My wife and I are both blessed that we have the ability to work from home. My son and daughter are e-learning from home. Hopefully this will end soon! Prays and thoughts are with you all!! Be safe!

We're doing our part to stay healthy by staying active. I'm spending most of my time off in the hotel with Heather and the kids in order to qualify us for housing assistance. We get out quite a bit with my Ruck'N'Run monthly challenges. Hope y'all are doing well!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200404/b7da64b372ecce5604b69f682d37aa09.jpg

WNYTONY I would love to hear your perspective on this. All well here but I'm going to work every day as I work at the Health Department and it's our show. Thankfully we are only at 8 positives in our county but we still haven't tested 300 people out of our available 400 tests.
We received new policy last week that even if we have positives in our staff they are to contact the EOC nurse and continue to report until they show symptoms as they need the people. So I got that going for me. Friday's meeting was to discuss our mass mortality plan which was due to the state so they were contacting coroners and funeral homes to gauge capacity and we don't have any deaths yet. NYC is crazy and they are applying it to the rest of the state, but they are beyond funeral homes and talking about refrigerated semis and hockey arenas.
From the figures I get it's spreading fast and we're not to the surge yet. And then they say it should go into decline but it will still be around so it's going to affect everyday life for a while I think. Social distancing and hand washing will be around for a bit but many of us practice that anyways.
Wife is working from home and so far all the kids are good. And I think I have just enough cigars to weather the storm so I'm just trying my best not to get it, just like everyone else.
Stay safe all you Bums and thanks Old Smokey for starting this thread.

As many of you know, I have a plethora of major health issues, so I guess I should be more concerned, but in all honesty I’m not. I stay at home 24/7 anyhow with Dr. visits being the exception. I am very very Leary of how this has turned into almost an event, with the news pouring fuel on the fire for no reason.
In no way am I saying don’t be cautious till this is over, I just don’t believe everything told to me without research of my own.
That said, me and my wife have a brand new 4K 65 inch and a new 4K entertainment system, so we are enjoying some HDR movies and bingeing some shows we have been wanting to watch.
Love you guys!
Edit:
Forgot to mention our 3 week shelter in place goes into effect in 30 min. But for the most part that’s what most of us here have been doing already, so not much change.

Wife and I are fine. Both our jobs are considered essential but at least she can work from home. Friday at work we had no more than a dozen people at work and 5 of those were on my floor. Doing my best with social distancing.
We have less than 50 cases in our county but state wide we have 6766. I fear too many are taking this lightly.
So far we have 311544 cases in the us with 8488 dead(more than 1%) and we are weeks away from our peak. White house's best estimates say at least another 92k will die.
Please be safe out there!

South West Ohio is in pretty good shape. Wife and I stocked up on items as soon as we heard the news. Had an idea this would
take off like a runaway train. Never used my Vacuum sealer like I have in the last 2 weeks. The weather has been fairly good
so I've been in the yard most of the time. It's not looked this good in a long time.
Started most off my garden seeds so ahead of the game there. Seems the alcohol sales in Ohio are up like 55%. State has
restricted store sales hours and limited number of patrons allowed at 1 time. Wonder how many babies will be born next Jan/Feb.
I really think we are being told about 10% of the truth on this. Can't even watch the news or read a paper because it's all
negative and gets depressing actually. There are a lot of good things going on out there but they don't get noticed, sad because
we could use some feel good news.
Hope everyone remains safe and we are all still here when this is behind us.

Wife and I are doing well. Also the kids are virus free. I have been working from home for the lat 3 weeks. Elsie is a teacher and has been home the last two weeks. Since my office is in Manhattan I am glad to be working from home. We are practicing social distancing and hope this helps with getting trough this virus and back to normal life.
Spending my time splitting and stacking wood for next winter. Smoking more cigars and drinking more bourbon by the fire than usual but that is ok by me. Don't watch the news as I too feel a lot of it is overplayed.
Glad to see you are all doing well so please stay that way.

98.54% is the current number for survival for the USA
Remember our wonderful media and snowflakes are the driving force between this and us. The numbers are skewed and everybody who passes now is counted as a victim of this crap regardless of heart disease, lung disease, diabetes. All the NBA players that had it haven’t reported any deaths or illness related problems. Smh

Well I started the new job at the car dealership and 2 weeks later Nova Scotia went into state of emergency and shut almost everything down. Currently laid off, waiting on EI to come through. We moved from New Brunswick to our old house here in Nova Scotia that we've been renting for the last 8 years. People are pigs and destroy/steal anything and everything so I have lots to keep me busy fixing this place up, seems like I find 2 new problems for every 1 I fix. With the state of emergency they put in, anyone coming into the province has to self quarantine for 2 weeks so I've been keeping bust cleaning/fixing things.
We're going to be in a financial mess though. Being the sole income for the family it's going to be big hit. EI will be about half of my usual income, but I'm told to expect at least a month before that starts flowing. We're working with the banks to try to get mortgages and car loans deferred to help get us through until money starts flowing but if things don't end pretty soon EI won't hold us over. Total about 12 hours on hold with the banks to date. Currently on hold again to find out why I was charged a mortgage payment on my house out west when the deferral was approved 2 weeks ago. Supposed to have a decent tax return coming so if that shows up soon it'll help tide us over, and the wife has picked up a part time virtual assistant job starting within the next week or so. Fingers crossed we can get this mess straightened out. We've always lived paycheck to paycheck and I have a tendency to try to live beyond my means so this is definitely an eye opener about how easily things can turn into a mess. Just hope we can hold things together enough until some money starts flowing in.
Everyone is healthy though and that's the main thing. 2 of the kids have mild asthma so we're watching to make sure they're good, otherwise we're not too worried about it. I think it's a pretty nasty bug and not to be taken lightly, though the media is definitely out for "the big story", with common sense and a little luck it'll end and everything can get back to some sort of normalcy. Stay safe out there!

Doing good. Unfortunately just got the new house so as each week passes I wonder if I made the tight move buying it as things seem to get worse w bo end in sight. I have been working from home but now for the month of April they have cut 8 hours out each week. I filed for unemployment to help try to fill that but if it dose not get approved I'm probably going to use my PTO days. My girlfriend has been off work w pay as she is a teacher. We did a huge stock up of grocery shopping when we moved in so we have not had to go grocery shopping but I have had some home depot and lowes trips to get things to fix small things around the house to keep me busy and keep up the maintenance of the house. On top of the covid19 deal our saint bernard had to have major surgery because she twisted her stomach.

So far so good. Work has slowed to a trickle which is far from ideal but it’s ok for now. I’m trying took at it as more time to play with my son. What work I am doing is over Zoom meetings. I try to get out at least once a day to run or walk. Lots fires in the fire fire pit after sundown with a cigar and some of my “liquid assets”. The grocery stores here are still a bit picked over for certain things like paper goods, some produce, dry grains and beans but it’s fine. I decided to use this time to get a new puppy since I’m home all the time now and can work on house training. She’ll be home 5/2. I’ve also come to realize just how valuable my son’s school really is!!!
I hope everyone is staying safe for themselves and for others. I just keep reminding myself it can always be worse. Hang in there guys and gals.

I’m feeling fine brother, thanks for asking and hoping you and yours are well also. Along with all of our BUM Families!
Spoke to my Boss last night and he’s received word from the CDC that all of us that got sent home for quarantine are clear to work again as long as we aren’t showing any types of symptoms and my Doctor seems to agree.
I’ve been taking my temperature twice a day and all seems good. Thankfully none of the common symptoms have arisen thank GOD!! So I’ll be heading back on Monday. The boss and our safety manager were both back on Thursday.
Still need to be vigilant and wear masks and gloves. Dealing with deliveries and pickups all day Im right in the crosshairs of this damn thing.

I just got laid off again yesterday thankfully. I work in a body shop, and work has died off obviously people aren't driving as much so much rather take the unemployment route for now. My GF works for an urgent care which is an extension of our hospital and even those guys are dwindling down and having to reduce hours.
Dad had a scare, when the Rona started coming around he got the regular flu, turned into pneumonia and had to quarantine while awaiting results. He's pretty much back to normal now though and laying low for awhile.
Well gives me time to work on the garden and hopefully get some fishing in soon also. Oh yeah and smoke cigars! [emoji2957]

We are still doing well in my little part of the world. I am looking forward to more warmer weather so I can comfortably spend more time outdoors. We have had highs of 87 followed by lows of 30 a couple of days later and the cold has stayed around. But I'm not complaining.
During one of those warm days I turned on the AC to cool the house down a little and Houston we had a problem. I called our heat and air guy and he came out a couple of days later to find that one of the copper tubes had rubbed a leak due to vibration and had leaked all of the coolant. The good news was the leak was in a location where he could easily solder it. The bad news was it would require 15# of coolant at $35 per pound. Unexpected, but it's fixed.
This hibernation hasn't been too bad for me and Mrs Smokey. We get along great and enjoy each other's company. I do miss physically seeing the kids and grandkids, Grandbaby #9 is about a month away from splashdown.

The wifey and I are still good. The kids, grandkids and great grandkids are well also. Mom and dad are both 83 and have bad hips. Two weeks ago Saturday, dad fell and broke his femur at the hip and was taken to he hospital. Last Saturday, mom fell and wopped her head and was took to the hospital. I couldn't go and see either with the virus crap. Mom seems ok, but they want her to come back in next week for more tests. They still have dad in the hospital as he's ready for some sort of rehab, but nobody will take him in. Hopefully, he'll be released around the 20th and can start some kind of rehab. He just got over a dose of the Pmonia's during Christmas, right after he got over a dose of having his colon re-repaired after having his colon punctured. That poor guy has been through hell.

Man, that just sucks Steve. Holla' if you're in the area and I'll hook you up with some venison and crappie to try and take your mind off all the BS while you're chewing some grub. We went to the lake house last weekend and fired up the fryer outside after cleaning our fish. Some crappie, hush puppies, potatoes and onions made for a nice evening to forget about all the crap going on. It's not much, but it's the little things that get you to the next day. I sure wish we had some morrel mushrooms for dessert!

Still all well here in western NY. Although I did find out that the store I went to on Thursday to pick up lunch for our war room had 3 workers (in the deli by the way) test positive on Saturday...... yikes ! So far so good though. Been relaxing, smoking some good cigars and watching some older stuff on the tube that I missed the first time around. Still going to work everyday and actually worked on Sat morning for the first time in about 4 years. It really sucks though that our golf courses are closed !!!

David. I am sorry to hear about your parents. I remember going through stuff like that with my parents, especially my dad. It's tough to watch and I am sorry you are living through it.
It's hard to beat fried fish, fried taters and cornbread. One of my favorite meals. I have enough in the freezer for about 3 more meals and we eat it about every 2 weeks. So if all goes well I can replenish my supply before running out. It's good to see you post my friend.

I was getting a cold sandwich platter and they said the workers involved worked on the hot food buffet take out they have. As far as I've heard the workers are out and they did a big clean and are still operating although they may have shut down that hot food cart for a little bit. They said in their press release that they were working with the Health Department to clean things and do things right lol.
So far so good for me and it's been a week. I am getting temp scanned 5-6 times a day between work and home so watching it very closely.

Still safe from the 'Rona.
Practicing social distancing, even though a Stay at Home order has not been put in place here.
One advantage to living on the "Great Plains" where we are already social distanced by nature (except for a few towns/cities)
Still going into work every day.
Pay has been cut to 50% (while working what feels like 2x as much!) as I cover the other half that have been furloughed.

Wow! Your son is in the midst of it. I’m sure he has some stories of how badly people misbehave during this. We have had about 300 cases in Douglas and Sarpy counties encompassing the metro area including OMAHA, Bellevue, Ralston, Papillion, LaVista, etc. That includes about a dozen or so that were brought here for treatment from the Diamond Princess Cruise from Japan.
Just found out today that my salary should be reinstated in the next few weeks as the company has been approved for the Payroll Protection Plan loan.
I had resorted to rationing my cigars, as I wasn’t planning on buying more for a while. Especially with summer coming up when I tend to smoke more.

Things are very different in areas of our country. All places aren't like D.C., NY and NJ. Take my town for example, 50,000 people and a total of 7 people had Covid19 and all have recovered with zero deaths. It been over 2 weeks since a new case. We don't need to be shut down, social distancing as best possible yes, but people need to work and businesses need to be open.
I don't think the people in NY would close down if we had the CV19 and they didn't. No offense to anyone, but 95% of the country is not like the populated NE, nor do they pack into trains and subways.

I'd say who cares. Even if there were hundreds of cases, if they weren't feeling sick enough to seek medical attention and it's been a couple weeks since anyone has then there is no reason to keep everyone locked away in their homes. The elderly and others who are high risk (diabetics, obese, COPD, etc) should still be careful but the young and healthy have little to fear it would seem. I think the biggest mistake in all of this is treating everyone the same and treating every area of the country or state the same as those with the higest risk and the biggest infection.

True. That's why those who are vulnerable to this virus should still be careful. However it would be best IMO to let it run its course thru the young and healthy so they can get it and get over it. There's no vaccine. The only vaccine is getting it and getting better. Once that happens the virus won't be able to pass person to person so easily until it finds someone it can kill. Might a few otherwise healthy people die? Maybe. But people die in traffic accidents too and we don't take every car off the road.

At this point destroying the economy and businesses will likely cause more deaths and have a longer adverse effect than Covid19. We know much more about 19 than we did a couple of months ago. So let's focus on protecting those people. We did a terrible job of protecting the weak and elderly in nursing homes and long term care facilities which account for nearly half of the Covid deaths.
Personally I would rather take my chances with getting and surviving Covid than feeling ruined, hopeless and unable to feed, house and take care of my family. That hopelessness kills and destroys thousands of lives, including family members.
They wanted us to stay home to round the curve so hospitals weren't overwhelmed. We did that and 99.9% of hospitals were never overwhelmed. That curve rounding happened a few weeks ago most everywhere. At this point we are just loosing our freedoms and civil liberties. So why are so many still staying home?
IMO, it's time to fire up the Great American economy before it's too late. We can do it safely to minimize risk. But it's time to go to work.

As of right now, there's no solid evidence that once you get COVID-19 you're then immune to it forever. It's an extremely complex corona virus that's unparalleled in modern history. They've already discovered that the one rampaging through the US is actually different than the one that started in Wuhan. So it's mutating. The whole idea of herd immunity isn't really backed by science. And to be completely honest, I'm one of those "young and healthy" and I don't want to be used as an experiment. Tons of young people who don't have any underlying medical issues have died alone in a hospital fighting this disease.
I know it's frustrating for all of us. None of us want to be living like this. But personally, I'm not ready to sacrifice mine or my family's health for the sake of the economy. And the idea that a recession is worse than the potential effects of this disease is false. 250,000 people have already died worldwide. Unless we continue to practice extreme caution, we're talking millions dead. At its current rate, it's essentially like having a 9/11 body count every single day. The models are truly terrifying. And thank god, we were able to slow the spread and it hasn't been as bad. And the fact that it hasn't hit your community hard is a miracle, and shows that this kind of precaution needs to continue.
That doesn't mean that we need to be completely shuttered, but we need to maintain extremely strict social distancing and occupancy limits, make millions more tests available and track cases carefully. Unfortunately, this is our new normal for the foreseeable future.
I don't care where you land on the political spectrum, but I hope we can all agree that we should be listening to doctors and public health officials instead of politicians going forward. No matter the letter after their name, they're all looking out for their own interests, IMO. Which means they don't care about the lives of you or me.

The common cold, the flu and Covid 19 are all Corona viruses.
They have found no cure for the common cold after decades of research. Though if you haven't tried ColdEze (over the counter) at the first signs of a cold, you are suffering needlessly. If taken as directed it will cut the severity and duration of the common cold in half. It's active ingredient is zinc. Do people die of the common cold? No. But I am sure in some severe cases it has developed into pneumonia and has caused death. But it would be very rare.
The flu on the other hand kills an estimated 290,000 to 650,000 people a year worldwide according to the WHO. We do have a vaccine that has been available for almost 50 years and the vast majority don't see a need to get the shot. Granted they guess each year what strain of the flu virus will be prevalent, and they are very often wrong. But they say even if the vaccine isn't a match, it still normally reduce the severity of the illness.
As of today 5-6-20 according to John's Hopkins there have been 257,906 deaths worldwide from Covid 19. Monday there were 1,050 deaths in the US from Covid. Much less than 9-11. Keep in mind some states have been calling nearly all deaths CV in hopes of getting more Govt money.
And I agree that it isn't proven that having beat CV19 that you are then immune, but it was true after SARS in 2002-2003 and there hasn't been another case since 2003. SARS was also a Corona virus.
Also very few young people have died from CV. A very high percentage of the deaths have been elderly and those with a weak immune system.
The models you mention as terrifying are terrifying. But they are also proven to be very wrong. And even after adjusting numerous times have continued to be wrong and grossly overstated. Remember when they first said the models showed 1.5-2.2 million people in the US would die from CV19 and they issued the stay at home orders unless you were considered essential? We just topped 70,000 deaths, which is about the same number of Americans who die from alcoholism each year. But liquor stores were considered essential businesses? That's kinda weird. The fact is the number of people who have had CV19 and either didn't know it or suffered mild symptoms is well into the millions. The areas that have been hardest hit are NYC and NJ? Why? Because most people don't drive, they take busses, trains and subways and pack in like rats. In LA most people drive, like they do in nearly all of the country. Yes, I agree with continued social distancing, but DO NOT agree with shutting down our country any longer.
There is some very nefarious stuff going on pertaining to CV19, not only in the US, but also in the world. It's all about gaining power and control. Like Nancy Pelosi says, never let a good pandemic go to waste.

I’ll just say that I disagree wholeheartedly. But this is not a political forum, so I’ll just keep my mouth shut. I hope you and your family stay safe, as does everyone else’s here.

Oh and before you run out for more toilet paper the Asian Hornet is another hoax. They live in the ground and are rarely seen. Been here for years already, and even in Asia they only kill fifty people a year. Chicken Little the sky is falling
This is another case of overblown fear generation. Most of the deaths in Japan cited are from allergic reactions, not unlike the 100 or so deaths a year here in the US from honey bee and other lesser bee stings. The moniker “Murder Hornet” was only fabricated this last week. Next up, “Ninja Spiders”

Then start paying me double time for three weeks, then the whole month of April off with pay. Upon returning in May I will make $7000 a month going forward to help the cause. It’s a shame this political campaign only hits small businesses, other big places like Walmart, Kroger, Target and Home Depot and Lowe’s have a combined three and one half million employees and none have had a problem with this “virus”. Be nice to put it behind us

Hey Steve! Good to hear from you mate! The strife.....Errrrrr..... I mean wife wanted to work on the garden, so she instructed me on what she wanted to do. Still not sure how I end up doing the work that she wants to do???? Anyhow, after she was done with 'her' work, I brought a TV out to the deck and we're enjoying some chicken wraps for lunch, and watching the NASCAR race as some live sports are a welcome addition to our lives right now. Yeah Josh, we received up to 2" of rain here and there in OK, but most of the heavier rain was around I-40 and south of it around your area. We're doing pretty good for soil moisture here in NE Oklahoma, and at the farm in North Central Oklahoma, but the Panhandle is still hurting pretty bad for some decent rains. At the farm in north central OK for the last two years, we seem to get way too much rain during the nesting period for turkey, quail, pheasants and for when the deer are dropping their fawns. We have a creek that runs the whole mile north to south through the farm that turns into quite the river when rains are heavy and it gets around a quarter mile wide. Our place is only a half mile wide by a mile long, so it hits us pretty good. We're just hoping to finally get a good nesting period off this year so we can do some bird hunting this year. The duck and deer hunting has been decent though.....

David, at least she has you domesticated to following orders. LMAO I am giving my raised bed garden the year off and just going to grow 6 tomato plants in containers this year.
Today my daughter is giving birth to our 9th grandchild. ITS A BOY! His name is Grayson Stephen. Mrs Smokey and I will be taking care of Brianna, 10 year old granddaughter for 2-3 days while mom and dad are at the hospital. Due to Wuhan Red Death only the father can enter the hospital and if he leaves at any point he will not be allowed to re-enter. She is having a C section so should come home on Wednesday. If the twenty eight day time span when one might be able to infect others is correct we should have seen a real surge of new infections since the beaches and boardwalks, ocean avenues have been really crowded on recent weekends.
