I wanted to wish all you guys a Happy IPSD!

There are many tobacco hobbyists who enjoy expanding their interests beyond just cigars and so they branch out into pipe smoking. If you have never tried a pipe and are curious, or maybe you're interested in learning how you can test the waters with a cheap cob (>$10) and some samples, come visit us on the Pipe Side of Cigar Bum (http://www.cigarbum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?13-The-CB-Pipe-Bums-Forums). We've got a growing community, and we're always looking to indoctrinate more pipers :peach:

Funny you should mention that, Mr. Lutz. Made a trade this week for a Bamboo Egg and some paraphernalia. Have no clue what I'm doing but I'm having fun doing it. I will be leaning on you pipers until I get my sea legs.

Absolutely. Come on over.

I was a cigar only smoker for a couple of years before trying a pipe. During this cold weather, I've been smoking a pipe more often. When it gets warmer, I'll probably be about 50/50. Pipes are a great part of the hobby.

If you're other half gives you hell about it you can always tell her that a bowl of good pipe baccy is a lot cheaper than a good cigar. :stogie:

The break in period on this one has been a bitch. 23 years and she's still got some bite.

Not exactly what I expected when I clicked on the thread :o

But yes, I'll second the motion to dip your toe into the pipe world. It's not pricy to get started, and I bet it'll grow on you! I enjoy the art and ritual immensely, even though I'm far from an expert.

Nice start! The pipe is very attractive, the blends are tasty, and that black Zippo pipe lighter was the very first one I bought 15 years ago with my first pipe. (I have 3 now- they work great)

Next time you're in Nashville I'll let you pop my cherry :D. I know zero about pipes but wouldn't mind learning.

Love the C.S. Lewis quote btw.

I smoke a pipe about 10-15 times a year. I only have a couple tobacco samples and I keep a pouch of Captain Black as well.

It's a date...I even know the best pipe shop to take you to, over by the Vandy campus.

Tobias Lutz. Funny you should mention. Every year they have a pipe show here in Raleigh and just yesterday I searched online to see when it's coming around again. Saturday, April 11th, for anyone interested.

Never smoked and don't own a pipe but thought I might finally give it a whirl. I guess I've resisted 'til now because back in school I'd sometimes hear, "I can just see you at home, sitting by a fire, dog at your feet, and smoking a pipe". Not the mellow image a 20-something wants to cultivate. lol.

As for the Pipe Show, who knows, maybe I'll see some other Cigar Bums there. That would be cool. But how will they know I'm one, too? Better get my Cigar Bum baseball cap by then, too.
