Bums-
I just realized it's been a basically 5 years since Cigar Bum came to life. A lot has changed and members have come and gone. Rest in Peace, Don.
I always say it and it's always true, Cigar Bum isn't the biggest cigar forum around by any means but it's probably the most drama free. It's a testament to the members here that we are still here and still having fun together. Thank you guys and gals for being the one of the finest collection of pipe and cigar smokers on the internet. The old adage "I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies" is 100% true and fits the Bum to a T.

I'd never heard that quote. It's a good one. I am lucky to belong to two wonderful online communities. Of course, CigarBum, and then also a Record Collectors of South Central Kansas Facebook page. Both are exactly as you describe--what we lack in numbers, we gain in quality of posts and overall camaraderie. I wish I actually got to enjoy a cigar with you all in person every once and awhile. My other forum holds record swaps on a monthly basis, and it's great to put faces with names. I'll get to an orgy at some point, unfortunately it's just the worst possible time for my work schedule. But I hope to be moving out of the finance department in the next year or so.
In this day and age, the internet rightfully gets a lot of heat for scams, spreading false information, radicalizing people and generally spreading hate. But remember, forums like this were one of the earliest draws to this technology. For the first time in history, you could immediately be connected to people across the globe to share interests and talk shop. I'm happy that in some cases, the internet is still used for that purpose--to share a love for a hobby. To five more years (and many more!) for CigarBum!

Don't worry, Sean, there will be plenty more Orgies. I'll remember to harass you about joining us next year. For those who haven't ever gone to the Orgy, it's truly the best 3-4 days of the year. If you haven't gone, you should try and come to one. Seriously.

Well hard to believe it’s been that long. I was one of the first few to find the bum when puff went poof and honestly Expected it to be like most forums I join. Post a couple times here and there, lurk around a lot and eventually fade out of existence. I’ve learned and continue to learn a lot from this place, made some really good friends and still enjoy discussing things here even when I can’t get out to enjoy the hobby.
I had moved to western canada not long before cigar bum went live and we had a hard time getting to know people and building decent friendships with our constant moves. You guys were my connection to real people when I had no one else and it helped me get through a lot just to have a place to vent or just discuss the randomness of life. Even if it wasn’t cigar/pipe related. And the fact that I’m always welcome to partake in things even being north of the border makes this place special. A lot of other places won’t let us partake in exchanges and contest, etc...
Maybe a bottle of wine later isn’t the time to post to a thread like this but thanks all for making Cigar Bum feel like home.

Thanks for the reminder Jesse. Cigarbum is a very special forum. And your right about no drama. It seems like most other forums I visit has their share of conflict. This place is home.

I have to give Puff credit for attracting such fine BOTL/SOTL & such great people!! That's where we all come from. But even better, thanks to Don and the others who gave us this GREAT new home. Thanks to all you great people who understand and respect when life gets in the way. I'm looking forward to making the Orgy one of these day to meet more of you. Love you folks!!!!

Great thread ! Well, all the good word have been thrown out there already so I won't blather on - and only say that I agree with all of the above.
You Bums are some mighty important people in my little life and I'm so glad we're all still here.
Didn't we do something to celebrate last year's anniversary ? :poke::poke:

Very cool post Jesse. This place is a great home. The events that led to this forum were unfortunate but out of those ashes came the best cigar forum known to mankind. As you noted, we aren't the biggest by any means, but I would say we are for sure the best.

So true and Jesse seems to always be around when that soap drops.
The Bum is such a great place to hang out and the Orgy cannot be topped. You have to attend one to find that out. To go to CI in Hamburg and take over the upstairs room is an event in itself.

Having been round since early 2009 from the old forum and then transferred to this one, I admit this one is much better.
Smaller yes, but so much better in so many ways. Being a mod on both, this one is a cakewalk.
I take my hat off to all the members here for being real people you want to have a cigar with.
I thank you for being the moral compass to one of the smaller but better forums.

Wow five years, it does fly by sometimes.
Couldn’t agree more, I think of you guys as friends, truly not just as a saying. Some of the best folks I have ever meet online are bums!
