I went to a cigar auction site just a few minutes ago and saaw that they are auctioning off a box of hoyo de monterrey excal #1's for $16. I was lamenting, earlier today, how I was paying about $90 online not long ago, and now they're about $130 online. I can see a site trying to rid of overstocked cigars at a cheap rate but I hesitate to pay $16 for what could be a disaster when I open the box.
Opinions? Insight? How do these cigar auction sites make money?
Also, JR has the cigars as backordered so I know it can't be due to low demand.
Thx guys

Ya got to know the Vendor....and if it's JR's then you feel pretty safe with the purchase. They offer a 30 day guarantee but YOU pay to ship em back if you dont like em. Sometimes the Consumer gets a deal and finds a bargain and the cigars you won are pretty decent...not great but decent and certainly worth $16. Auction sites take a gamble every now and then with overstocked supply but they still have to pay out if nobody else bids against you.

I was just on there looking at a price. he excaliburs are hard to find in my city these days.
It was just a cigar auction site and it just seemed too good to be true for a full box of hoyo de monterrey since retail is well above $100 more.

Was the $16 price the starting price? How much time was left on the auction? If it's truly an auction, the price will go up the closer it gets to the end as more people bid on it.

Is it Cbid? Aka "The Devil's Site"?
Yeah, its legit.... until you miss a mortgage payment from all the stuff you bought! Pays to bid early on large lots - bid increases work their way back from most recent to earliest. Manage your shipping by having all your lots ship out same day of the week.
Cigar auctioneer? Also legit, run by Famous cigars.
Somewhere else? Just name it; this place is pretty cool and people will help you out.
