I’ve often walked by the small humidor at my grocery store and wondered if any of these would be good to try out. I recognize many brands but not the smokes themselves. I’m not into flavored cigars, though maybe some form of whiskey or rum might be good (would that taint the other cigars?), and I like smokes that are medium bodied. Anyone have any of these and feel it’s a worthwhile smoke?

Just grab a pack of Backwoods Sweet Aromatic from the gas station.
They're cheap, decent and rum flavored.

Perdomo champagne is a decent stick
San lotano are good but never had that one.
I like oliva but not series g unless it's a Maduro
La aroma de Cuba is good
Nothing stellar but a few sticks worth trying

Yeah, actually not a hideous selection for the grocery store. Not a factory throw out in sight

La Aroma de Cuba, CAO Flathead and those Fuente Cuban Coronas will all do right by you. My bigger worry is what they're storing those things at. I wouldn't surprised if it's 20RH away from where it should be.
I'm jealous. Any time I've been in a pinch and had to buy a stogie from a grocery store or gas station humidor, I've had to go with some generic, mild to medium monstrosity.

I’ve always looked at them a bit skeptically but with curiousity at the same time. Wouldn’t figure the grocery store would have good smokes per se. I need to look and see if they have a hygrometer displayed somewhere.

Guess if they were stored properly they would be fine...there are some brands that I smoke but buying cigars at grocery stores would be like buying milk at Auto Zone....I don't get the warm fuzzies.

Not too bad of a selection for a grocery store. I wouldn’t be hesitant to smoke the Perdomo champagne, San Lotano, RyJ, AF, Nub and the La Aroma,
As has been stated, I would be more suspicious of the storage conditions. May depend upon who is tending to it. Sometimes it is an outside vendor that places these humidors in stores and restocks/monitors them. If so, there may be an outside chance they are OK.

I completely agree with CentralTimeSmoke FidelCastro & Nature !
Some nice choices, storage would be my concern.

I completely agree. However there have been a few times when I just felt like trying something new and this would certainly be convenient.
If I find a hygrometer and see it showing reasonable conditions I suppose I should try one.
Thanks everyone!

Prices aren't too bad for retail.

Personal opinion, better over humidfied than under!
Over humidifier can be brought down. Under humidfied = oils dried out.

And you can always wipe the 'plume' off with a rag... unless it's all over the foot...

It's just a stock photo.
I have a few boxes though that were stored with a 69 boveda in a plastic bucket. All the cigars from a certain region began to mold. I caught it in time, smoked the worst of them and wiped the rest down good and proper. Then i changed to 65 packs and haven't had a recurrence. IMO high humidity is bad news... However as a purchaser, at least you can see mold. You can't see oxidized or evaporated oils.

Used to use the 69% Bovedas but switched to 65’s as some smokes just seemed a bit hard to smoke and was told 69 could have been an issue. Haven’t seemed to have it happen since...

I learned early from most of the BOTL here at our former home the 65 or lower is better!
Much better burn unless there are construction issues.

I suppose I should confess to using the tiny 69% Bovedas that come in the Nat Sherman small gauge cigars in a little Tupperware type container for my stashed emergency living room smokes. Need a little stash for the don’t wanna hear the bitchin’ that may come with it or the possibility of waking her late because I seem to just need a smoke, which also comes with bitchin’, and often more of it. Seems a fitting use for those little suckers. And 69% did me well most of the time it seemed...

Wow, that is easily one of the nastiest cigar pics I have ever seen, and I've seen some bad ones. Can I use this for a possible future "caption this" post on our BCP Facebook page?

Feel free as far as I'm concerned but it's just a stock pic off the web. Idk who owns it.

Yeah, I saw that you had said that after I posted. Also, I decided not to horrify the good denizens of our Facebook community with this ghastly image. :nightmare:
